Root ROM comparison Guide ?

Noob here. I have rooted my Eris, and loaded the xtrsense ROM. What I'm wondering is, has someone taken the time to make a guide of some sort that compares some of the top ROMs, and shows the differences? I've tried to read up on some of the ROMs on the XDA forums site, but some are like 1300 -- 1700 pages !!

I'm used to flashing Win Mo 6.5 ROMS and you can read up on those ROMS in 20 - 50 pages. It's overwhelming.

Help a noob out !!!

I just found this forum, and so far I love it !

The answer is not really, because I am sure that nobody wants to do all that work.

I guess the best thing is to ask which features you are looking for and people here will answer with their recommendations.

xtrSENSE is a great first ROM to run for an Eris user - it runs just like you are used to, with a great deal of reliability and reduced lag. There are a number of ROMS that are actively being maintained, and I would stick with them.

2.1 ROMs based on HTC Sense:
xtrSENSE
PlainJane
xtrRCMix
xtrROM (has no Sense launcher)
Evil Eris has recently seen an update after a long time
Tainted Tenzo (also has no Sense launcher)

2.1 vanilla ROMs:
Vanilla 2.0.4 (plain AOSP)
Cyanogen ELB (based on Cyanogen 5.x, though it hasn't been updated in a while)

Froyo 2.2 ROMs:
KaosFroyo
CELB Froyo
Tazz Froyo
FroShedYo
Nonsensikal (no longer being maintained, according to the dev, but still very recent and capable)

Those are the ones that I would look at. I tend to recommend xtrSENSE, xtrROM, xtrRCMix for 2.1. Any of the Froyo ROMs are decent choices and worth a try.

I hope that helps. Kaos Froyo has a FAQ that lists the commonly asked about issues and problems. https://github.com/punk-kaos/KaosFroyo/wiki/kaosfroyo-faq Some of them are unique to Kaos, some of them are common to all of the Froyos, or a few of them. It's worth glancing through, anyway.

Even though Nonsensikal isn't being maintained anymore, I feel its the most finished 2.2 ROM. Maybe not the prettiest, but I'm running the vanilla version, so that doesn't matter too much to me. I've been using it daily, and have yet to run into a problem with the camera, gallery, dropped calls, battery life, etc. Also, I haven't tried this on other ROMs, but live wallpapers work really nicely, and use little of my battery. I know they can eat your battery but I just figured I would point it out.
