Root [ROM] CROMi-X

BTW, you mentioned you turned off the sync stuff, what sync stuff?

Here is some dumb questions. I have been looking at what method I will use to unlock, root and install a custom recovery and Rom. Blackmambazz provides a tool that seems to do it all as long as one has the right version of Asus' Android. The others I have looked at don't look to appealing. My questions, what method did you use and what would be wrong to just unlock using the Asus unlock tool and then use GooManager/ Open Recovery Script to install TWRP? Are you using TWRP and if so, what version are you using? I looked and TeamWin is up to 2631 as of right now. Any version I should avoid? Thanks

Just thought of one more, I know you said you are using Cromi-x. Wondering if you have tried CM10.1 and if you did what you thought of it.

Using the toolkit will have to use the Asus unlocker tool, there's no other way to unlock the bootloader. I was pre-rooted before applying the unlock tool, by using an old method from while the tablet was still on 4.0.3, which allowed me to use goomanager to install twrp using the method you brought up. I think the Motochopper root exploit still works on the tablet, so you could root before unlocking if you desired. Mine's on twrp 2.6.3.1 and that should be fine. I would avoid using any old twrps because some don't play nice with the Asus bootloader, though I can't remember when it was fixed. :o. I actually ditched Cromi-X and am currently running CM10.2 based on the 4.3.1 build for the LTE Nexus 7. I think it actually runs a little smoother, but maybe I just didn't have the most optimal settings for Cromi-X.

Hi NT,

Sorry, was busy with things the last couple of days and forgot about your post.

I think this is how I rooted: [How-To] All-In-One Guide For Asus Infinity (TF700) [25/03/2013] - xda-developers

I remember doing the Asus unlock and the root procedure after that. The original files are long gone from my desktop (unlike the Note 10.1 files for the last 2 models).

I would think the toolkit posted by Jhawk would do the same thing.

The reason you couldn't pm me is I turned that lovely feature off. People I didn't know kept wanting personalized support instead of posting in the forum.

I tried CM 10.2 and found it waaay too slow. Even the Cromi-x seemed slower than what it should be for a device that benched cpu and gpu so highly. That's why I got rid of mine. Now I have the 2014 Note 10.1 and really miss the dock, otherwise it's a slick (but spendy) tab. Now I have to unload a couple TP's and Mac mini's to justify it. :D

FWIW, installing Cromi with _that's latest kernel, no extreme tweaks (requires hund's kernel I think) and turning off the risky fsync seemed to work best for me. Hunds kernel seemed to run too warm for my taste.

Wow, Cromi-X is up to version 5.1.2, and the feature set is looking awesome!
