Root [ROM] Jiilik's custom Shine Plus ROM's

Still no go on trying to get wireless drivers to work with 2.3.3... I need someone to try something though. If I replace wireless.ko from 2.1 it errors out the wifi. That's possibly because the kernel support is different, so we'd need to have someone try to rollback kernel + libs as I've stated before. If I make a package to switch over and a package to rollback, can I get someone to test it out for me? Only problem with that is if it does end up working (And black screens are gone), we'll need Jiilik to make a 2.1 kernel with the same mods as 2.3.3 (App2SD, AVS, overclocking, etc.) if possible.

Thanks!

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to do here. The kernel from 2.1 will not work with the new radio image without some black magic that I don't understand. We could load that kernel, but lose access to the radio - phone stops being a phone and ends up being a nice PDA. Forward porting the kernel modules from 2.1 probably won't help 2.3.3 either, since most of the work is not done in the module, but rather, it's done in firmware (which, again, requires black magic).

I think you folks are barking up the wrong tree (could of course be wrong myself), but I think it's just a script somewhere on the phone that's unloading/reloading the wireless drivers when the phone goes to sleep. Poke around in the various .rc files to see what I mean.

I just started a new job and moved across the country, so I won't be able to do much for a while. I'm happy enough with the current state of my phone anyway. Good luck folks (feel free to fork/reuse my previous work... see the kernel OC thread for details on the only kernel patching I've done).

Cheers

I wish you the best of luck in your new new job and I will miss having your input on the forum. Thanks for all your support and efforts.

I thought you said kernel 2.1 was working on 2.3.3 a while back... So I was exploring that possibility to rollback the kernel and wifi modules to 2.1. Guess I was wrong. ;) As for baseband, it does not handle the wifi portion, only handles GSM signal.

Thanks for your support and help Jiilik, it was really appreciated. Glad to see how far we went with our phone...

Keep an eye on your LG updater though, there's a possible bugfix version coming from LG to fix the outstanding issues! I got everything working on the phone ever since I moved Dalvik to SD card except for the screen freezes... So I'm happy with its current state also. I might also switch my girlfriend over to another phone at the end of the year, so I don't want to waste too much time on this anymore. ;)

well, guess we gotta thank you a lot for what you both did... without you, this rom won't advance much more... Thank you for making our devices good for allday use... Greetings and best of lucks :)

Hi I am having difficulties downloading 2.3, the only link which is working for me to download is from the original jiilik's which shows how to root and install a sample rom. Can someone please give me a few tips on how to get 2.3 on my shine plus.

Thanks very much

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

This forum pretty much died out sadly... Upgrading to 2.3.3 is not the best of ideas right now, because LG botched the update. If you use wifi and the phone sleeps, it freezes (Black screen) and you have to do a battery pull. If that doesn't bother you, I can always upload Jiilik's v008 ROM somewhere for you.

Thank you for the info. It sounds like the v8 rom is a lot more stable and some people have come up with some fixes. In one post it says to turn the advanced option for wifi to turn off when the phone sleeps. I am having an issue with wifi turning off with 2.1 at the moment anyway. I am needing to tell the phone to reboot the connection in order to reconnect after being idle for a while. If you could send me the v8 it would be awesome! Also any feedback and wisdom on if I should upgrade to v8 or stay with v10d would be much appreciated. Good work to all the progress you and the other developers have made!

Thanks Again
Andrew B

both those links to jiilik's v008 are broken too, could one of you repost them again please? it would be greatly appreciated!

I tried both steps from post #124 and it still crashes. Once I reboot it works fine but I do a second reboot just to test it out and I still get FC. I did both steps. I don't have any app on sd at all

I suggest not using Jiilik's ROM because of wifi/blackscreen issues. It is not up to date... My latest ROM has all of Jiilik's features, but updated to latest v20b build.

As for the FC situation, there's possibly some corruption on the system folder. Try flashing this with the Foolproof guide:
