I have the galaxy nexus and a lot of experience with custom roms, but the evo shift is new grounds for me. My fiance owns this phone and hates it due to how slow it is and that she constantly has to uninstall apps due to the internal memory issue. I would love to root the phone and find a rom that will remove this problem (remove bloatware, allow more apps to sd) while being hassle free in terms of battery life and stability. Are there any great set-and-forget rom and kernal combinations that won't make her want to tear her hair out? Also, how is the rooting process for this phone? Is there a one-click method available? I appreciate the help.

Root ROM / Kernal recommendation for my technologically-inept fiance

For rooting it depends on which version of Android she is on. If its on 2.2 rooting is relatively painless but if it's on 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 the phone will have to be downgraded or you could use the htc tool to "unlock" the bootloader. I would suggest the full root but that's just me. I would check xda for the most current root methods. I'll link then later but I'm on my phone.

Some steps are not exactly the same. Just watch and read a step ahead of what you need to do. Easy, but be patient.
It took some time.
Then I installed Titanium Backup Pro. Through that you can remove whatever app you want to remove. I got rid of Nascar, the football app, the lame social media stock apps and the dreaded IQ tracking software.
Phone is a champ now with room to have fun with.
I'm looking for roms as well. I'm going to check out newSense right now.
