Root ROM/Kernel Combo

Cane M3

Newbie
Hey guys just wondering if you guys knew a good ROM/kernel combo to get good speed and battery life.

Thanks
Cane

I ran Fresh 3.5.0.1 with the stock kernel for a while and was pleased with it. Currently running Mikfroyo 4.4 with netarchy 4.3.1- sbc- cfs- havs and getting pretty good battery life. Setcpu lets me overclock to 1152(some can go higher) and underclock to 245 with screen off.

As far as 4g, I am not in an area that I can use that but I believe it works on both of those.

Im running miks also with whatever kernel it comes with and whenever I do a long bench test with setcpu I get around 375 is there a way to make it faster our do I need to use another kernel?

I went to the link you posted but wasnt really sure what CFS ans BFS meant, and should I use the beta builds or stable builds??

I would start with a stable build. I have not tried the new beta yet as 4.3.1 was just made a stable. Here is some info on what the abbreviations mean.

Havs: Hybrid Adaptive Voltage Scaling, basically tries to undervolt as much as possible to conserve power, but adapts to things like cpu load and temperature.

No Havs: Static voltage scaling, every cpu speed pulls a specific amount of power from the battery, no variation

CFS: Completely Fair Scheduler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

BFS: Brain **** Scheduler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are phones that do ok with the bfs kernels and some that do not play well with them. You would have to try them to find out but I believe most do very well with the CFS kernel

That is what I am using and have no complaints. SBC is still in question as to whether or not to can damage your battery over time as it trickle charges the battery to keep it fully charged once it reaches 100%.

mikfroyo 4.4
netarchy-toastmod-4.3.1-bfs-havs-nosbc

no issues so far, 4g works just fine, battery is just the same

Alright thanks xtreme im gonna go with the Netarchy Toastmod with cfs, no havs, and sbc and just make sure Im careful with leaving the phone on the charger

Give it a couple of days to see how it does, make a nandroid backup and try another one.....you wont know how they do til you try them.

Also one that has 4G..

Whether or not 4g is functional or not will depend on what type of ROM you use, not the kernel. All sense based ROM's have 4g working. I'm currently running Mik's 4.4/Netarchy 4.3.2 cfs HAVS more no sbc in conjunction with setCPU set at 245/1152, smartass governor (no profiles), and get about 48 hours moderate use (usually in spurts of texting, emailing, etc.) and upwards of 72 hours if my phone is idling the majority of the time.

Your best bet is to try a few kernels out and see which ones your Evo plays best with. What may be a great ROM/kernel setup for a few, may prove to be the opposite and completely unstable for you. Every Evo is different.

There have been mixed results (they seem to do better with extended batteries) when using SBC kernels, so try one w/ SBC and one w/o and see how it goes.

My personal experience with SBC kernels is that my battery would hold on to 100% much longer but drain a lot quicker during actual use, so I switched back to the same kernel w/o SBC and my overall battery life improved tremendously. *Again*, that was MY personal experience and yours may differ.
