Root [Rom] LG - Viper ICS 4.0.1r1

RedBunnyJAV

Newbie
I found a file on the LG Open Source Website the other day. Just enter LS840 for the model number.
This is the file I found:

LS840(Viper)_Android_ICS_4.0.4_r1_US_Sprint_Opensource_LS840ZVG.zip

In the .zip are 2 files. An Android.tar.gz and a Kernel.tar.gz file.
The README says to compile to must have the Android-SDK installed and basically you just compile the LG/Sprint Viper ICS with the Android 14 in the SDK and walla you should have ICS 4.0.1r1 ready for your LG-Viper.

The main problem with all of this is that you have to have Linux running to ./compile the way the readme says. So over the next day or two I plan on setting up linux under VirtualBox or some other way to do it on Windows.

If anyone want to try, just download the Viper - ICS from LG/Sprint on the link above (the've taken it off the site for some reason) and let me know how it goes.

Unfortunately, theres more programming needed for the phones hardware and its functionality in ICS, although the release states SPRINT, that is what sprint takes and adds additional compatabilty. ( I believe ). Anyway regardless it's back up, and our phone is advertised as running 4.0 so, lets wait it out ;)

Read the README a lil closer, yes will need to have the sdk installed along with all the other stuff to setup a dev environment, like java jdk etc. Also need to repo sync the android source and then merge the LG patch into it. Then try to build it...... it never has compiled for me. ;)

Then kernel src usually from LG works out of the box with their defconfig, this src has been a pita, prolly just hard coded paths, not really investigated much yet, but thats what it usually is when stock src wont build for me. Well anything other than samsungs lol, they flat out leave shyt out n break shyt. ;)

Wasnt aimed at anyone in particular, just the wording with have to install the Android SDK that a lil more involved than that.

You all need to get use to me, i am blunt n some times my comments can be mistaken as hostile lol. Trust me n yiu can ask most the mods, if i am being hostile you will know it lol. I generally dont get hostile (even if thats the right word to use) unless someone is posing as a dev that doesnt know jack, or it posting sum1 elses work as their own... oh and 'throms'. Lol.

Do believe i got the src i got from lg, but i can redownload to be sure.

To be quite honest i was preparing a msg. Because however you rationalize...you definitely come off as almost condescending tone of which the G*D in your name implies. ;p

Didnt like how my then pos ascend ran n was about to smash it when isaacj87 released cm7 for it. Lol and my involvement n knowledge has grown since then. ;)
