how do you know what kernel you have? and can u change the kernels? i see that someone was saying that cm7 works great on the gb kernel..also if you are on froyo for example can you put a gb kernel on it? im currently on unrooted .596 and been debating on either sbf back to .340 and rooting and roming or taking the update and rooting but i havent seen a very stable rom that has caught my eye for gb .602..just trying to figure all this out befroe i jump in feet first any help would be appericated

Wow, this ROM is incredible! I've never seen so many customizations! I'm barely scratching the surface, and am already very impressed.
Now that I've played with this for a couple hours, I have a couple questions:
1. How do I enable new ringtones? I copied over some of the .ogg files from my previous installation and have placed them in the same directory as all the other ringtones, but when I go into Sound settings, they're not there.
2. Is there a way to save all my settings once I get things the way I like them? I know many things (i.e. launchers, widgets, etc.) have their own backup processes, but I have yet to find one that will capture all the changes I've made in Liquid. Will I just have to rely on ROM Manager backups?
3. I can't get the alternate camera app to install. One of the reasons I wanted to switch from Apex is that the camera was constantly crashing and not only locking up my phone but also losing my pics/videos. I see that there is an alternative one here, but when I install it and run it, it freezes up the screen, force closes, or just doesn't seem to connect with the external lens (the app works fine, but no picture comes up).
Once again, I'd appreciate any guidance any experienced Liquid users would be willing to provide. Thanks!

The short answer? No. These 2nd Init Roms are just like other Roms in the way that they are designed to run on one spacific kernel. The majority of the 2nd init Roms out are for the .340, or Froyo, kernel.
Devs are working on releasing their 2nd init Roms for the Gingerbread kernel. These Roms are more involved than your basic Roms such as Apex but they still do the same thing, they are built around the kernel because the bootloader on the X is locked down.

whats do u mean by 2nd init Roms...and if i am to root what bootstraper do i use..is it still droid2 bootstraper or is it droidx or x2 now..

Miui,cm7,liquid,omgb,omfgb are all whats know as "2nd init roms". In a nutshell the 2nd init highjacks the first and forces it to run how it wants to. In order for you to flash one of these roms you uave to ne on froyo. You would of course root your froyo and install droid 2 bootstrap to flash these roms. However once you are on one of these roms you would already be rooted and no longer need droid 2 bootstrap. As a matter of fact you would mess up your phone if you did use droid 2 bootstrap on a 2nd init rom.

ok so i need to sbf back to froyo, root, and then download droid 2 bootstrap? then flash my rom then delete the droid 2 bootstrap? im on .596 unrooted and undecided on wether to sbf back and root or go to .602 gb and root..froyo seems to have more stable roms as of right now from what ive seen

Yes with one exeption, once you flash a rom you will no longer have your apps installed, including droid 2 bootstrap. Unless of course your google backs up all your apps and reinstalls it. In that case you would just simple uninstall bootstrap.
Bootstrap being on your phone with a 2nd init rom will not hurt your phone. just DON'T use bootstrap. Remove it.
Froyo and Gingerbread have some nice stable, fast Roms with very good battery life. Battery life being better on GB than Froyo. As of right now, anyway, the Froyo based 2nd init Roms are not so great on battery life. Some people have better luck than others in that area.
Our devs are working on bringing there 2nd init Roms out with the GB kernel so we are hoping to see many improvements with these Roms in battery life and other improvements.
It's soley up to you which way you want to go. Which ever road you take I'm sure we DX junkies will be here to help you out.

3. My LED notification seems to have gone nuts. Every time I get any notification (Gmail, SMS, missed call, etc.) the LED comes on in the cool rotating color shifting thing that Liquid allows you to do. Unfortunately, I did not set this cool rotating color shifting thing in the LED notifications settings screen. It sucks the battery life and generates a lot of heat. Also curious is the fact that when I do the Flash Test to verify the color and blink rate of my LED notifications, it doesn't do what I've selected, but instead rotates through all the colors (and steady, no blinking). Any ideas what's going on with the LED craziness?

Personally, I would SBF back to Froyo and flash all the available 2nd init Roms that are out to find one I liked and one that had good battery life, or at the very least battery life I could live with for now.
Then flash CM7 cause that is already out for the GB kernel. Once you have flashed all there is to flash, choose which you like best based on performance, functionality, and looks.
Keep in mind you should allow time for these Roms to settle in a bit before you decide you don't like the performance or battery life. A few days would give you pleanty of time before you flash on to the next Rom.
But that's me. As a matter of fact this is the very same path I took. So far I am liking Liquid and SSX. Right now I have MIUI 1.7.22 installed and this rom is amazing. Not that the others aren't but this one rocks.
Using the tweaks that are available for MIUI right now I am getting good battery life. So far running, with moderate use, 18 hours off one charge. But all droids are not the same. You may get worse battery life or better battery life than me or others using this Rom.
Or any 2nd init Rom for that matter. All I have left to flash is CM7 for GB but I have been procrastinating a bit cause I really enjoy MIUI. Hope that helps you out a bit.
