Root Rom Manager

Here goes...I know it seems very easy to use and whatnot but this program is not ideal for flashing roms. If you use clockwork it is useful for booting into recovery. Make your backups in recovery. Flash zips in recovery. Wipe in recovery. When you do you will have little to no problems. Learn to use manual recovery and see the difference. I don't want to say that Rom Manager is junk but soooooooo many people have issues that I just had to post this.

Issues such as??? If you are going to make a claim, at least back it up with some specifics.

bad flashes. bad wipes. bootloops. failure to make bootable backups.

the biggest issue i see in being active here, the eris, and original droid forum,is that when something goes wrong that you cannot boot into a useable rom,you cannot use rom manager.

bootloops keep you out of a useable rom. ive seen folks boot into semi-functional roms with no rom manager,no market, and no way to side load apps.

the #1 fault rom manager has, is that will not always be there. remember its just an app,so youll need to be in a working rom, with working wifi or data to even consider using it.

recovery is reliable. it will always be there for you. and it is how you will fix boot loops and non-functional roms.

i agree with the original poster 110 %. i came from the eris where rom manager is not really an option,so i got uised to recovery from day 1. i cannot understant for the life if me why folks like to use rom manager.

my advice it anyone who likes to install roms: get 100% comfortable and used to backing up,wiping, and flashing in recovery. at this point if you really feel you need to use rom manager(for whatevr reason ) go ahead. at least youll know how to go to recovery and reflash the rom,or restore a backup to fix it when it goofs up somethin, and we wont see frantic "help im in a bootloop and i dont know what to do!" posts on the forums.

IMO rom manager is unreliable. ill admit it...im a flashaholic. ive prolly installed a couple hundred roms on my 4 phones, and ive never had a situation i couldnt easily recover. my 2 cents :)

When I posted the OP I had all that in mine. Thank you for saying what I was too lazy to respond to. But seriously...I've only ever used rom manager to flash recovery in a pinch. Otherwise it sucks and is very unreliabe. Thanks again for your post.

I will have to disagree with your statement of ROM Manager is messing up backups and all. I have had ROM manager since it came out. I have yet to experience any problems that some people have been having. I think most peeps experience problems because they retore system data. I only restore some app data using titanium backup. Mostly its just the app and no data...

im sure you havent had any prollems, and thats great. alot of people have used it and also never had prollems. but that doesnt change the fact that things do not always go perfectly.

a bad file or bad flash is just that. while restoring system data to a rom that you shouldnt can and will cause FCs and other irritating prollems, you do need to be in a functional rom to use titanium backup. it has nothing to do with the prollems i have described above.

i am still of the opinion that the SAFEST,MOST RELIABLE way to get a new rom onto any phone is:
1)download to PC,check md5 sum
2)transfer to phone via usb,check md5
3)boot into recovery
-make backup
-wipes
-flash new rom
-reboot

and i would still highly advise that you become comfortable with recovery. when you know how to use it,and still wish to use rom manager,go ahead. at least youll be able to fix the prollem if something ever happens. remember-rom manager is an app in a functional rom. it is not a seperate image that will always be there, like recovery.

Not to mention that if you pay for Premium and lose your phone you can't get your premium version back. Even though I have my order # and requested, on multiple occasions, a redownload, kush (or whatever his name is) refuses to reply and make the software I paid for available to me. He can take this [censored] software and put it where the sun doesn't shine as far as I'm concerned. He won't be seeing any more of my money.

We were talking about flashing roms with this crap app, not restoring apps after a flash causing headaches.

Why can't you sign into the market and redownload it from there? It is tied to your account.

im a little confused, here, too. i have apps that i paid for and have had on 4 different phones now  when i go to the market, look at my apps, they are there and say "purchased". all i gotta do is tap on it,and it downloads.

im sure that whatever issue you have, the issue is more than likely with the market, not with koush. i personally would not be so quick to bash him... if it were not for him its hard to say what we would have for custom recoverys. he does alot for us.

I believe, originally, there wasn't a pay version in the market, and you paid koush through pay pal (titanium was originally this way also) and he would e-mail you a key, therefore it does not show up as a "purchased" app. There are LOTS of people who have reported this problem with Koush.

oooh,i see. i dint realize that it was set up this way. makes a lil more sense now. :)
