Root ROM or Wait?

Hi all,

I'm trying to decide if I should attempt a ROM install or wait for a OTA release of Froyo.

I'm currently getting along with a rooted Ally, though I could really use a boost in resources.

I'm kind of leaning toward the ROM approach since I have already removed bloatware and will have to do some work restoring to stock anyway.

I'm also feeling like stock Froyo won't perform as well as some of the finely tuned ROMs.

Are these correct assesments?

Are you all going for the OTA or do you think most of you will remain with 2.1 ROMS until a Froyo type custom ROMS become available?

Thanks,

Brad

Since you will have to re-stock your phone for Froyo anyways, you might as well go ROM for the time being. Plus, I imagiine if\when Froyo is relased, someone here will come up with a flashable version of it that's rooted already, so you might not even have to return your phone to stock.

I would just make a nandroid backup of my current rom so that when i get the ota for froyo, i can go back and forth with ease. I suggest getting a custom rom because stock rom sucks imo.

I completely agree. I would play around with some ROM's. Once the update is put out, just go back completely stock, and your phone will receive it. Basically what I'm saying is you won't miss the update if you're running a custom ROM. This is what I've had planned from the beginning. Just have fun like the rest of us while we wait. Lol

I think Trident's Velocity v0.4 is the cat's meow. Personally, my phone runs great at the moment. We have all been waiting for this Froyo vaporware for our Allys. The only thing I miss is the "complete" blue tooth function (voice commands) and a fix for the battery bug. I suspect that within a month or so after the release of the 2.2 update, these Dev's will have us a kick butt ROM. We've waited this long....what's another month? Just a thought.
