Root ROM poll

I have a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop running Win 7-Home collecting dust. It had occasional overheating issues, but was fine with a cooling pad. The built-in memory card reader no longer works and the screen isn't as bright as it once was.. I replaced the hard drive last summer (500 GB). It's not great, but it still runs. Interested? I might give it up for the cost of shipping and maybe $10-20 to spend time cleaning my old files off of it.

I would be if I had ANY money at all lol

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have programming experience or experience building ROMs from scratch? If you feel you could directly contribute to fixing the remaining issues in CM9 for the OE, I might be willing to donate the laptop and ship it for free.

None. Part of the purpose is to learn

Well, if you think you can put your best effort in to learning how to build CM9 and fixing the camera (and you want to), I might help you out anyway. What flavor of Linux do you like? I haven't had enough time on my hands lately to help very much with CM.

What do you normally do for work?

I can guarantee that ill put in 100 percent effort into it.

With linux I'm a hopper but im planning on going stable and installing debian 7, probably xfce . I actually ordered an install dvd last night. I know I can just dd it onto a usb but I figured having a professionally made dvd would be nice

For work I'm a Jack of all trades. But primarily worked in customer service and management. My last service job was at T-Mobile working in retention which was horrible.

I can still toss you some money when I get some I just can't promise when that'll be.

You might need to give me a couple of days to prep the laptop, but I plan on sending it out this weekend. I'll try to clear most of my stuff off and leave Win 7 + Ubuntu 10.04.

Send me a PM in a bit (I need to clear out my inbox) with a shipping address.

So it looks like the choice has been made. I'll try to help with cm9 and work on miui as soon as I receive the laptop. Poll unofficially closed but still feel free to drop by and give opinions. I'm always looking for something to do lol.

Oh and I'm going to finish off GSnap (get weather widgets working)

Edit:
Well I lied lol I'll take a day or two to get the laptop setup the way I like THEN get to work

I'll pay the shipping. Just PM a paypal address.

Such generous people around here, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. That's why I stick around here even though I don't have my Elite connected anymore.

Ken,

I'm sending you the laptop today. I hope it makes it there alright.

It may be helpful for you to have a USB or wireless mouse as the touch pad is well worn. Otherwise, it's all cleaned up and running well. I'll send an old cooling pad with it, which is a bit noisy in its old age, but maybe it will help.

Enjoy.

I have a usb mouse already. So that went be an issue. Thank you

Ok I'd last side note, it's a me thing but it covers my roms as well. Soon I'm going to go thru a restructuring, basically I'm bringing my "company" back. So when I get the laptop and update the roms you will see things like name changes and other material. It also covers my Photoshop, YouTube, websites and other consumable media. If y'all are into that sort of thing.
