When ever I download and flash a rom like the cyanogen roms they work fine when i flash them but i never have the market app or any others. Is there something I am doing wrong or is that just how those roms are?

If you don't have the market after flashing then you probably should have flashed a gapps with your rom. What rom are you flashing?

yup,all those require a seperate flash of gapps,or "google apps" package wich contain the market and a few others that you may or may not miss :)

you can find it in the developers thread near the rom download.

wipe
flash rom
flash gapps
reboot

voila! market is there :D

Thanks Scotty, I got it working, im running the GSB right now and im not a huge fan, any other good roms you prefer?

actually GSB is my favorite

ive also also ran tastybread and felt it was maybe a little bit smoother. it is a port, however, and is based on 2.3.2,where GSB is 2.3.3 and is a real, tho unofficial, cyanogen rom. im sure workshed will keep it updated as official 2.3 updates are releases.

visually there wont be alot of difference between GSB and tastybread unless you apply a theme. both are plain vanilla android.

as for the 2.2 roms, they are all decent, and all cm based. try froshedyo if you want a heavily themed rom(he has many) or tazz froyo if you kinda like "sense-ish" look of the icons in the menu and app drawer. nonsensikal and froshedyo vanilla are also smooth and stable.

for 2.2 i used celb 4.3(was the current version at the time) and found it to be smooth and stable as well, and liked the fact that it was a pure CM rom with no developer tweeks thrown in.

i didnt spend too much time with any 2.1 roms, but the xtr roms and tainted tenzo were smooth and fast.

i tried tenzos 2.2 sense rom, wich *I* found quite smooth and stable, and overall quite acceptable, but the non-functioning camera made it not daily driver quality.

hope that helps :)

The GSB rom I used was GSBv.2.2, im not sure if thats a good one or not. I also use XTRSENSE5 and I like it, I think its a good solid rom. I don't care to much about the special things that some of the roms do, the main things I care about are: not laggy, good keyboard, and doesn't crash, any recommendations that fit these?

With xtrSENSE, you have it.

When you flash it, read the instructions carefully - unlike the CyanogenMod ROMs, the Google apps are already built-in and it doesn't require a separate google apps flash.

I'm just wondering if there are any better roms because I hear that xtr's are notorious for not having as good of a battery life. Also if they are any that are more solid then xtr.

more solid? prolly not. if you want to flash one rom and then never a mess with your phone again, then you prolly want xtrSEnse if you are a sense fan, xtrROM if you are not.

the non-sense based roms exibit batter battery life for most folks,so youll likely get a lil better battery out of xtrROM than xtrSense.

the CM based roms seem to get even a little better than that. its hard for me to accurately judge,as my battery is prolly fairly worn out,and i play on my phone constantly,so no combination of roms/kernals/setcpu settings gets me thru a whole day on a single charge

doogald threw out some numbers in another thread,i cant remember wich one now. if he doesnt chime up on the subject, search this forum for "battery life" and see what pops up :)

Battery life on the xtr ROMs is fine. There is no doubt that I get more life on the GB and Froyo ROMs, but that's my phone, and others have reported the opposite experience. I don't use my phone to play music or play games at all; perhaps the xtr ROMs are better with that sort of activity.

Anyway, they key thing is that my phone is off power usually at 4:45 am every day and back on power at somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00 pm and I get a full day of battery life from xtrROM and xtrSENSE.

Battery life is generally the same for me with xtrROM and xtrSENSE.

Other ROMs to try, if you want to try out some different ones, are xtrRCMix and Tainted Tenzo. Both are also very good.

i ran it. it was stable and solid for me... maybe a lil laggy at times, and i personally prefer the slightly more vanilla-ish flavor celb. tazzfroyo's icons and such are somewhat "sense influenced". nothing wrong with that at all, just personal preference on my part. if you like the looks of it,tazz has a gingerbread rom as well. :)

Would you say its a pretty good rom? Or are there better roms?

its definately a good rom. "better" is a pretty subjective term when it comes to phones and roms... if i thot it was "the best" id still be running it ;)

i personally like some of the features of 2.3,so i dont keep any of the froyo roms on my phone any more. as i mentioned above,as far as the froyo roms go i prefered CELB for being a pure CM rom with a vanilla feel and no added developer tweeks.

also factor in that for some reason the same rom may run differently on 2 different phones

in all honesty the differences between 2.1 and 2.2 are small,as are the differences between 2.2 and 2.3. one of my favorite things in 2.3 is the ability to choose a black messaging background, wich is possible with CM based 2.2 roms. one could also add the gingerbread keyboard to to ay 2.1 CM or sense rom,or any 2.2 rom.

i guess what im getting at is that there is no "best rom" for any one person to run. try a few and if you find one that runs good on your phone and as the features you want, along with the tweekabilty to "look" the way you want, roll with it :)

edit: if you were asking about tazz gingerbread, its been a while since i ran it. at that time, some folks were having prollems with it,so i wanted to see if i would or wouldnt.

i dint have any issues with it... it was about the same quality as GSB as far as smoothness and seemed as stable.

that was a few updates ago... im sure alot of bugs have been worked out of it by now. id suggest reading thru the developers thread on xda and decide if you want to give it a shot or not :) if you dont like it you can always go back to your current setup :)

Would you mind giving me some links to the roms that are good? Sorry for being annoying with all the questions but thanks your helping me out a lot.

All of the ROMs can be found here: Droid Eris Android Development - xda-developers

Look for them by name; most start with [ROM]

The ones that I have tried that I think are good are (almost all of them are missing something or have some shortcoming):

Eclair:
xtrSENSE
xtrROM
Tainted Tenzo
Vanilla 2.0.4
xtrRCMix

Froyo:
CELB
Nonsensikal
FroShedYo
Tazz Froyo (I never ran this myself, but I am sure that it is fine.)

Gingerbread:
GSB
Ginger Tazz (never ran this either; I am sure that it is good)

Nah you just think you did.:D His fingers are so fast on his keyboard that he already typed that paragraph while you were copy/pasting that link.;):D Oh and Scotty's getting pretty quick on the draw too. All jokes aside, everybody's very helpful and this fourum would be nothing without all of us and a special few.;):)
