ROM Question

ok Im rooted with fresh 1.1 and gumbo kernal 31. Im hearing about pancake ROM and android 2.0.1 for hero and was wondering.. How would I go from Gumbo to Pancake or 2.0.1? and would it even be worth it? Also what other ROMs should I consider?
I know theres a thousand posts like mines but thats why I posted my own question, theres tooo many posts to find a clear answer.

nandroid backup...

wipe data

flash zip from SD

enjoy ROM.. rinse and repeat as desired.. as far as other ROMs.. look in the sticky here or at XDA for all the various CDMA Hero ROMs

Thanks. 2 questions. How do I Nanoroid backup? And by wipe do you mean format the SD card? I Rooted my phone awhile ago and forgot the whole process.

power off phone.. hold home.. power on while holding home. when you get to the green text on a black background menu let go of home. select nand backup

to wipe you'd be in the same menu and select wipe data

no need to format the SD card

One LLLLast question. Would I need to nanoroid backup after I wipe incase I want to Flash a new ROM later? Im gonna try Modaco 2.2, not sure if ill like it so I want to have a backup.
I was thinking the nanoroid backup is permanent. Is this correct?
and which wipe option do i choose?

I guess you could do that.. but its always better to just wipe it...

Ok just booted up modaco.. Glad I backed up my contacts, didnt know that they all dissapear. I noticed the bottom of the screen and taskbar icons are stock again. Should I install fresh before modaco to get the theme+lockscreen or is this normal.

did you do a wipe before flashing? if so, that's why you lost everything..flashing fresh first won't make a difference since you're flashing a different ROM over it..
