Root [ROM RELEASE] 2.2-based Byron Bare

Wow - 149 MB free at install - now THAT'S a naked ROM! Very well done, sir! I salute you!

EDIT: Actually, a little -too- naked for me. I found there were a lot of things I've taken for granted as being there that I had to manually install. I might take another look at (Byron not Naked). Using Uninstaller Pro for Root, I could always remove those Social apps I don't ever use and still gain the benefit of the odexed apps I do use. A win-win!

Thanks for developing these Darkxsun - it's kind of gloomy on the forums just now. This gives me some hope for the future.

No problem at all.

P.S. Just jumped through all the hoops for Verizon, trying to diagnose the D2G. The wife is getting an Ally tomorrow.

Who would be interested in a few packages (in update.zip format) that would allow you to install, as system apps, a few common apps? I'm thinking Gmail, YouTube, etc. If most people end up installing these, it makes more sense to have a system (and odexed) installation method available, in the spirit of Byron.

Let me know what you Bare users think, and what apps you'd like to see.

GMail, Google Maps and Navigation would be nice. I don't use most of the Social stuff, maybe Facebook, that's about it. Everything else I use would be too unique to me to suggest as a package.

Astro, maps, navigation, quick boot, titanium backup, wireless tether, touchdown, thinkfree office, calculator

These are just the important apps I use...

If these are system apps, are they able to be updated easily? I think I might have to try this rom soon.

Is it possible to make the LG alarm into an update.zip? Thanks for your hard work.

It would be great if you could make each app into its own update.zip, so people could pick and choose what they wanted to add. I don't know how hard or pratical this is though.

That would be great because then everyone could pick and choose what they wanted and it'd be 'custom' to the users wants/needs.

This is probably more than I'd do. Especially with some of those having questionably compatible license, I'd be wary to include them. I'd be fine with anything that comes with the phone, and something like Wireless Tether that is clearly open source. Titanium Backup is another story.

System apps update just fine, but the updated version is stored as a downloaded app, negating the benefit of having them as system apps. This is why I intend to keep things up to date, so users don't have to resort to that.

Thanks for your input.

These all seem reasonable. These were the core apps I was thinking about actually.

That's the plan. If you want everything, go with Byron. If you want Bare + a couple things, grab a couple of the add on packages.

Tentative list of flashable add-ons:
o Gmail
o YouTube
o Maps (incl. Navigator and Street View)
o Calculator
o Clock

At a later date (working through an issue):
o Wireless Tether

What do you guys think?

I have no idea why this was the place you thought to post, but this is a thread for a specific ROM for a totally different phone.

Wrong forum, but my suggestion would be to go to the Droid forum and ask them how you can boot into recovery. Then I would restore the nandroid backup that you have from before you tried to make these changes, assuming you have one, which you should. You should always create one before making any changes to your phone.

I tried flashing this rom to my Ally but, every time I tried, it quit instead telling me:

Error at line 93: "no space left on device"

I'm running Amon-Ra recovery on rooted 2.2.1 and tried both with and without wiping anything. Am I doing something wrong?

The main zip file? strange. Can you give me a full list of the messages it prints?

For those with success, are any using amon-ra? I'm unable to use it, so I can't test for it.
