Root [ROM RELEASE] 2.2-based Byron Bare

Byron Bare is a little too bare for me and Byron is a little too social for me. I know I can either dress one or strip the other but I was thinking, maybe what I could do is pick the apps I would want to add as my "default" apps and then create an update.zip to add them like you have so they would be odexed (is that the right word?). Where could I learn how to package them like that?

If you remove apps from byron, the rest remain odexed. If you add apps from the Byron package to Byron Bare, carry both the apk and the odex and they will be odexed.

If you want other apps, you have to go through the process of manually odexing them, which is a bit more complicated than I want to get into at the moment.

OK, well the manually odexing process is what I was interested in learning about. I'm guessing it's not for the faint of heart. Can you at least point me toward some good resources?

This script has some good components included with it, but it's not quite ready to run straight out of the box on the Ally yet I think... If you know a little scripting you could probably alter it, but it's written to odex everything... either way, you could read it over and see what's involved, then replicate it via adb shell to just a single apk.

Oh, yeah, this process must be done on the phone, while running the ROM you want to run the apk on... it customizes it for the environment it's intended to run in.

anyway, the link: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/301910/odex-script-for-unodexd-roms/

The worst I can do is brick my phone, right? :eek

Which I nearly did last night trying to get my Dalvik cache to move to /cache. Thank you nandroid!

I think I'll check out this odexing too.

Edit:
I did move a custom boot animation to /system/media instead of /data/local to save space too. It ate a bunch of system space though so depending on what I decide to put in /system I'll either be limited or have to ditch the animation.

First of all i would like to say thanks for a great ROM...
What i want to know is if its possible to put Tridents Music.apk with all the Widgets from Velocity 0.4 that he put, into this Rom by ADB ?

EDIT: I tried to put it but i cant seem to get it to work new to this and still learning THANKS

i'm not familiar with this package. is there a reason velocity requires a special version of music.apk?

even if this works, i'm sure this apk is deodexed. That alone wouldn't mean it wouldn't work, but the advantages of odexing wouldn't be true of that app.

Thanks for the help! thought so... nice Rom... getting all the unwanted apps out of the way

I just added another pile of addons. Please report back with any problems with these.

o Clock (the stock alarm app)
o Genie (that weird news thing with included widget)
o Live Wallpapers (all the included stock ones)
o Voice Dialer
o Facebook

keep requests coming.

I'll take a look. I'm totally n00b with this, but Hey! The worst I can do is brick my phone, right? :eek

As an FYI, the Ally is really hard to brick to a really dead point. About the only thing that can really kill it is an interrupted radio flash :)

How about Google Voice search? I see you've got Voice Dial, but IMO, Voice Search is better because it can do the same as Dial, plus more. That, and i like to use it for directions when I'm driving.

Hey darkxsun, just to let you know...I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue, or if they've even used the bluetooth, but mine would no longer connect to my bt car stereo. Every time it tried to connect automatically, the phone would say something about process.settings stopping unexpectedly. I was no longer paired after the flash, and when it was trying to autopair, thats what would happen. when I tried to actually repair with the device, it would say the same thing. I flashed my nandroid, everything was fine. Reflashed to byron again, same issue. Just to let you know. I reflashed my nandroid so my bt would work. Other than that, loved the rom!!!

I don't have any problem connecting my headset with it. Froyo and Byron, both work really well with my headset, connects super fast every time. When I was on Velocity .4, it would take forever to connect and half the time it wouldn't connect.
