Root [ROM RELEASE] 2.2-based Byron Bare

mine would no longer connect to my bt car stereo. Every time it tried to connect automatically, the phone would say something about process.settings stopping unexpectedly.

Weird... You're going through the same process you went through on stock 2.2, from the beginning, and it won't work though it did then?

So this is probably a dumb question but I am new to rooting, roms, etc. It seemed to me that the purpose of the guide at the beginning of the thread to install froyo and root was just for that, rooot access and froyo. I used super 1 click and got the ota froyo update. I used rom manager to create a nandroid backup. Did I accomplish the same thing? Can I use rom manager to flash this rom to my phone or is there a better way? I am sure you probably covered this but again, being new, I wanted to make sure I was thinking along the right lines so I don't totally screw up my phone :)

Yes...I was at 2.2.1 rotted with trident's guide. Did a nandroid, flashed byron bare, then I had the issue. Reflashed my nandroid, bluetooth worked again, reflashed bare, same issue, so i reflashed my nandroid again. Possible I had a bad download. I didnt try the other byron yet, but being at work, I can't really do that right now. I really liked the rom though! fast and lots of memory, just can't go without the bluetooth in my car.

can't go without the bluetooth in my car.

I've looked through everything I removed and I can't find anything related to bluetooth except an empty folder called something related to bluetooth. Considering it's empty, I can't imagine it's affecting things that much. I'll look into trying to replicate this.

It sounds like you did not preserve the old baseband, meaning you don't have access to fastboot anymore. This shouldn't affect you day to day, but if your recovery gets corrupted and you lose root, you'd have to start from the beginning, rather than booting into fastboot and flashing a new recovery from there.

At any rate, you can still flash this ROM via your custom recovery. I see no reason why that wouldn't work. Since you're already at 2.2.1, you have the new radio image, and you have a custom recovery, so I think that should work fine. Report back!

Awesome! I downloaded the 4.0.1, flashed it with rom manager then flashed the update. It worked fine and was super easy. I love the ROM! Thanks so much for all your hard work!

Since other people seem to be having no issues, let me redownload it when i get chance and try i again. i might try regular byron too. don't worry about it too much on my account! i'll give it another try and let you know what happens.

This rom is very nice and quick. I have all kinds of free space. One thing I never had in any rom was lots of RAM. I would usually hover in the 10-20% range. I added Auto Killer from the market and set it to Strict. It increased my RAM to the 40% plus range. Works well with this rom. I also set the VM Heap size to 32.

I know that VM Head size setting is DISPLAYED in the build.prop file. How did you increase it?

Thanks qwerty1

Will savoxis's ally rom themes work on Byron?

No. As stated in the first post, Byron is unthemable as a consequence of being odexed. If you install some theme on Byron you will not be able to boot.

I must have also missed where the location of the wireless tether link add on was for byron. Could you please direct me.( I didnt see it on the first post)

This has been retracted. It didn't work properly. You can still install in /data though, either through the Market (I believe it is there) or downloading it from their site and using adb.

Ive already got two versions of the app apk on my pc/sd,just wasnt sure if it had to be odexed to function properly

Nope-- you can't odex user-installed apps, and apps dumped in /system/app don't have to be odexed. All of the included add-ons are odexed so they don't take additional /data space, but it is not mandatory.

I thought so,but wanted you to confirm,as so not to mess up my swift Byron.Appreciate all the help and the great roms!I'll stop buggin ya with my noob questions!Keep up the good work! Later!

I posted an updated Google Maps addon (version 5.1). This version introduces checking into places via Latitude.

Same deal as always.

Thanks a lot for the great ROM. Realy fast with no problems. Still have plenty of space even with ALL the Apps I want installed.

Impressive, by far the most responsive ROM I've used to date.

This thing would be an absolute beast with overclocking.

Well done man. Keep up the good work.
