Root Rom Selection - Confused

Hi all,

Rooted (Big thanks to SUroot & Rastaman for all the advice), partitioned the SD card (4gb card, partitioned 1gb) now ready to flash a custom Rom. But confused about the rom as initially i was about to flash Redux, then some people are saying the camera doesn't work like that....

Please advise me a Rom ( that is almost 95% trouble free) with a apps2sd+

Thanks
Shyju

I don't know what you mean about the camera not working, or "not working like that". Really all of the major AOSP ROMs are pretty trouble free for the majority of users (though CM will require slightly more setting up, as you have to add a2sd and google apps yourself).

Equally you won't get 720p video recording with any of those, but does that genuinely matter to you?

Really the most important thing is the ROM type. Do you want Sense (if so, old style or newer?), or would you prefer something simpler and faster? Does the Miui look appeal to you?

You can change ROMs rather easily, and you can swap back with a nandroid restore (you can keep multiple nandroid backups of different ROMs, and copy them to a computer since your card isn't very large), so you can try different ROMs and see what really works for you. I'd suggest giving a different type of ROM a couple of days, rather than deciding on first impressions, since the first thing you may notice is the things that are "missing", and only later realise what else it does, or does better.

I've used several aosp roms and have never encountered a problem with the camera, I'm using redux at the minute and its fine, no 720p but you can get that with some of the sense based roms, however I have always found these to be slower and laggy compared to aosp.

Indeed. There are only minor differences in ASOP ROMs, and we all choose them based on small personal preferences. In any case, CM7, Oxygen, Gingervillan and Redux are all recommended. I've tried all of them and never had any significant issues.

One final doubt, before flashing. What all i need to do in recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, cache etc...

Someone please advise...

Thanks
Shyju
