Root [ROM STABLE] Stock Gingerbread Android 2.3.3 Build GPA13

I love it, it works great. But i have one question. I went into setcpu and the max i can go is 600mhz. Before i used this rom i was able to go to 800mhz. How do i unlock to make it go higher?

You would have to flash a new kernedl to get higher. Pete developed a special kernel for his ROM that is 600 mhz max. You can flash a higher kernel if you want just make a backup first. Pete's Bugless Beast ROMs and his past GPAs all had 800mhz kernels. This is the first one that is 600.

You can find his other kernels here: Peter Alfonso

For some reason I can't make phne calls correctly. I can make and answer the call, but I can't hear anyone and no one can hear me, even when unmuted and the volume turned all the way up.

i just reflashed and wiped and did factory reset a couple of times and got the market back but now i have the same problem i can dial out and answer calls but cannot hear anything

other than that the rom is great and would love to use it but need the phone to be a phone.

Been running this for the last day. So far, so good. No reboots. Everything is working. Market working, most apps restored (I always have a few that just won't auto-dl).

Still having the same battery quirks I had w/ PEv5. Battery makes big drops after getting below 50%. Went from 50% to 20% in about 5 mins using GMN.

Also still having the home screen redraw lag that I had w/ PEv5, but I think that's just the way it is w/ GB ROMs.

Did those of you with the redraw issues try the code fix? I will post it here so you will know what I mean:

In a terminal,
type su and enter.
Then type echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop and enter.
Then reboot.

If this ROM has this problem, and this process doesn't fix it, I definitely want to avoid it since this issue drove me nearly insane before I found this fix.

OK, I flashed this ROM and am loving it so far! Very smooth and solved the issues I was having with CM.

One quick question: I am getting a notification for an alarm in the status bar and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. The alarm is from a third party app, but it never put an icon in the status bar in other ROMs, and I don't see a setting for it in the app settings. Is this a ROM feature? Is there a way to get rid of it in the ROM settings?

Several things would be helpful to know. What is the icon? Where on the notificcation bar is it? And most importantly what third party app do you think is causing it?

If it is the app then you need to change it from within that app or uninstall it if you don'y use it.

The icon is a little clock, and it is placed on the far left of the status bar.

The app is Gentle Alarm. I have used this app for a while now, and with two other ROMS (stock and CM) and in neither did it place one of these icons on the status bar. And, there is nothing in the settings which indicate that it is adding that notification.

My thought was that maybe this ROM added such a clock when any alarm is set (using the stock clock app or any other). But if that is not the case, I am not sure where it is coming from.

It may be that the ROMs you used (CM) blocked the icon or allowed greater customizations with the notification bar. I have Alarm Clock Plus and it puts a small alarm clock icon in the notification bar between the battery icon and the clock, whenever I have an alarm set.

If I turn my preset alarms off the icon goes away. One thing to remember with Pete's ROMs are that they tend to be more stock-like. GPA, especially, is the stock version of Gingerbread that Verizon would have released (as envisioned by Pete). Hence you will always have less customiztion options than with CM or SS and such. Bugless Beast does have some options though they are limited. BB is designed for performance, speed, and smoothness (GPA is not a Bugless Beast release though Pete is working on a Gingerbread BB currently). That is the beauty of so many choices of ROMs. There is generally something for everyone.

The icon is probabaly tied to the Gentle Alarm and can't be removed when there is an active alarm set.

Edit: For FYI, I also can't remove my icon without removing the app.

hmm, the only thing is that the icon didn't exist in my stock Android before CM either. I will check with the Gentle Alarm folks and find out whether it is from them. But, I think you are right, the ROM would not likely add such a notification on its own. And, if it does, there is not likely a customization to remove it.

And, I agree entirely that this ROM is built for speed and stability, and I will take that over customization any day!

One other thing I just though of is check your stock Clock app and see if anything is set in that. There is an icon with that also and it may have something to do with it.

That was a very good idea, and I checked the stock app, but nothing there. Then I got word back from the app developer that there was an option buried deeper in the settings and that they had switched the default in a recent update from off to on. So, when I redownloaded the app, I got the newer version. Mystery solved and icon gone!!

BTW, I am REALLY liking this ROM. I was getting the redraw a couple of times, so I just ran the terminal entry code and all is well!

Epic! This is EXACTLY what I've wanted! Plus, the added bonus of restoring my contacts, which I had thought lost after I installed CM 6.1.2. My phone is exactly where I want it to be :D

My only /sadface is not being able to OC past 600, but I get it.

Thank you sir for all of your hard work in producing this.

You can still OC past 600 if you flash another kernel. The 600 has worked well for me so I have kept it, but Pete makes a number of other kernels that go up to over 1 ghz.

They can be found at Peter Alfonso

I havent noticed any issue yet, but I've only had it running in my final config for a couple hours now, and it's currently charging. Thus far everything has been crazy smooth, all I had hoped for.

@skil- I am running his 1.1Ghz kernel right now. Plan to keep it in performance mode via setCPU, just to see what battery life ends up being. I'l likely run it conservative (800Mhz) in regular use, however.

Is there anyway to choose a different "turn off" animation? While I usually stick with the stock issue for such things, this particular one (turning off like an old tube set) just mildly annoys me. Can I change it?

Download spare parts, change animation speeds to fast and it will go away, i love it though, my fav thing about Gb

After this rom has been tested a few days i would love to know what kernals are safe to run to max out speed and batt life. I came from PE 5, was good but after a week lost its touch.

I will check that out. I remember that app from Cyanogen, but never checked it out. I wouldn't want to speed up all of the animations, just that one. :0)

My favorite part too! So retro!

I am very pleased with how smooth and efficient this runs. Over 12 hours and didn't drop to below 70% battery. Bear in mind, it was in my pocket most of that time, but I made a couple of calls, surfed a little on break, and played angry birds enough to be mad that I didn't keep my saves with TiBu when I flashed...

SetCPU is set performance, 1100Mhz/250Mhz, so it's pretty tame while its in my pocket. A good round of angry birds will be a nice test for battery life :D

No longer impressed after a few more days of use. I'm now getting a lot of slowdowns / lockups / reboots. I'm also having various issues w/ phone calls...phone controls disappearing during calls, person on other end can't hear me, phone locking up during a call, screeching feedback on a call. Also having the 3G-data-not-returning-after-a-call issue.

This has been similar to PEv5 for me. Ran well the first couple days then took a major nosedive. Seems to be a common theme w/ GB ROMs.

I'm willing to try a couple different kernels before giving up on this ROM. Any suggestions?
