Root ROM updating and Rooting

A friend of mine rooted my wife's phone a couple of years ago. I was curious if someone can guide me to update her phone to the latest version of Android - if that is possible?

Second, my phone also a couple of years old, has not been rooted and updated, so if someone can guide me to simple instructions for this I would appreciate it.

Then go here and download the 20110828 Gapps: Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps

Make sure it's the one for the MiRaGe ROM. Flash the ROM then the Gapps.
Then go to the PlayStore and download the Check Rand Entropy Avail app.

If the Random Entropy value is not in the 3000 range then flash the entropy tool zip from the recovery.

Note: This is the best, fastest, smoothest, most solid, and hassle free ROM for the V at this time. The ICS and Jellybean ROMs have their problems.
