ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero (H3G)

just had a go at downloading it... after inutting my s/n i get the message " sorry not sutable for your device"

im running a factory unlocked unbranded hero in the uk. and the last rom update (the 2.73 bla bla) downloaded and worked fine..

any ideas?
 
ye i think your correct it seems to be the 3 version of the rom update i allready have..

theres a link to it on the three site as well.
 
You need to log into your 3 acount online and its under the download bit.. sorry I'm at work now..

What confuses me is: Why would HTC release another 1.5 ROM(I think) when we are expecting 2.x relatively soon?
Unless we won't be seeing 2.x any time soon.
 
if it is an update and it's still for 1.5 than it's mostly a maintenance update to fix bugs etc. possibly preparing the hero for a 2.x update :)
 
just checked the link and its the 2.73 update, so one would assume that the 3 Hero's were running on the previous and is therefore being brought up to speed with the rest... this would most likely have been on the roadmap from the start for 3...
 
Threads merged to keep things tidy....

3 came late to the Hero party, so this is them catching up to Orange, T-mobile and the generic unlocked handsets. Who knows, this may mean that the 2.1 update is just around the corner now that all the official carriers are on an equal footing? ;)
 
I'm on 3 UK went to the download site, as mentioned it's v:2.73.771.73. Checked my phone and it has v:2.73.771.62 CL#80033 release-keys.

Before I grab this is UK europe 1 or 2?

EDIT: Doh!! God I'm thick sometimes, it's just a download location :)
 
From what I recall its the same as the one that was for the orange network posted nearly 2 weeks ago.

I do beleive this to be bug fix and general platform stability update.

I wait with baited breath for 2.1...
 
I have a hero on three, my last phone was an n95 with three and they have always been a bit slower than the rest with firmware updates.

I haven't done a firmware update on my hero before so have a couple of questions.

I dont mind losing data as its on a memory card, what i am bothered about is loosing my applications, does the market remember what i had installed so i can just go through my downloads list and reinstall?

Also do any of you use any backup application for settings?

From your post, it seems you have upgraded ROM to v:2.73.771.73. Because I want to upgrade it as well. Just wonder it still keep original 3 UK's functions, like Skype for 3 etc after upgraded? Or anything should be noticed? Many thanks for your sharing. Look forward to hearing from you!:)

The readme file for this update says that it will delete all data on your phone. It suggests that you back it up first.

First of all, does that mean it's going to delete all the apps and contacts on the phonebook?

Secondly, if it does delete it, how would you back that up? I guess you could always painstakingingly go back and download all your apps. But backing up all your phone numbers????
 
It keeps all 3UK settings, wipes everything else (contacts/apps/etc...) but as long as your contacts are synced with google once you login to your google account at reboot all your contacts are synced back to the phone. The market also keeps a list of your purchased apps so you can redownload them.

The first time you launch market it should also list the free apps you downloaded (well it did for me) I downloaded some of them but when I went back to the markets later the ones I didn't re-download were gone, so I'd advise making a list of the free apps you have before upgrading or back them up with Astro.

Is that right a Java icon added after upgrading to the latest ROM? any benefit you advise? Cheers!
