Root [ROM] [VM701] Mobster Rom v1.4 update: 5/28

I gave this ROM a shot last night on my wife's new Slider but failed. I flashed it a couple times but only got a black screen.

Sweet ROM.Performance is great but I just had to tinker with it. I replaced the stock launcher with Launcher PRO and the stock browser with Dolphin Mini. Also themed it a lil bit with the UOTK to suit my taste.

There's still some files that can be safely deleted to increase the internal memory's free space. I don't remember what all I got rid of but all of the ringtones for sure (got my own on SD) and a few system apps that apparently do no harm when removed.

Aside from issues on VM's end, this phone has been solid for the last 5 months. Thanks Mobster! Keep up the great work!

You said up top that it was optional to flash GingerKernal. Does your ROM incorporate the changes from the Kernal? If we want to install the kernal, do you recommend installing the rom first to make sure it boots, then the kernal? Or the other way around?

Thanks!

Just install Rom, then install Kernel, then reboot. That's what I did on my girlfriends Slider lol. It worked fine.

Yup, thats the way I do it too. Wipe cache and davlik cache (in advanced), install rom, install kernel, wipe the two caches again, reboot. Remember do NOT format /system on the Slider.

It isn't /system you don't format. It's the /data you aren't supposed to format haha.

Wiping data/factory resetting (in CWM only) won't mess anything up. I have wiped data 3-4 times on the slider with mobster and stock ROM, its all just user data. Wiping the /system is what causes the boot loops when switching ROMs. Either way like the OP says wipe only cache and davlik when installing.

Nooo factory data reset is different. That puts it how it was in the box. Formatting /data is bad. That just deletes EVERYTHING. But yeah you're right doesn't matter lol. Have you tried the Gelato Rom from xda Sneaky_1? I'm wondering if that rom or Mobster is better.

Formatting /data is a factory reset, they both wipe /data partition and /cache partition. Thats why it is called "wipe data/factory reset" in cwm. Like I said I just did it a day ago on the slider. It will put it back to if you flashed the ROM on a brand new phone, with just system apps installed. /system is where the OS is located, /boot is the kernel.

I have not used Gelato, only Mobster and stock. Im sure Gelato is pretty good too. :-) AC has a Gelato thread too if you want even more feedback. [ROM][Team Hydro] Gelato 11-28 For Virgin Mobile Optimus Slider - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Glad to find this thread... I've been using Gelato on my slider, tried this ROM, and while it removes the start up animation, the shut down animation remains. Any ideas?
