Romney vs. Obama

Obama sounds as stupid as George Bush did when he spoke publicly. Seriously. Go watch a video - Obama talks SOOOOO SLOW and just throws in a couple semi-big words to look smart and then has to stop and think again for 5 minutes before starting his next word.

Well, I think Ron Paul would actually do better than many people think. He'll get the people who vote R and the people who won't vote O. That's a given. But I think he'd also do well with the Occupy crowd and the centrists. Personally, I blame the primary system more than the media though. I'd like to see all states have their primary on the same day. Also, if there are more than four candidates in the primary, I'd like to see a semi-final vote where the voter gets to pick two (maybe even three) candidates. It'll never happen though.

Ron Paul would do awesome and probably win in a landslide against any opponent if he would learn to shut his mouth...... he has the same downfall Perot did

First 2 sentences out of his mouth: 'I think we should (insert cause here) and (insert ambitions here).... and this will (insert result here)'

Crowd response: HOORAH!!! This guy is a genuis...... hes gonna win by a landslide!

Third sentence out of his mouth: 'And we also need to build a giant glass dome to prevent the martian invasion'

HEH???

as far as the primary system goes....... its by no means perfect.... and a lot could be changed to improve it.....

but having all states vote on the same day is a HORRIBLE idea..... theres a reason its split...... campaigning

if every state was held the same day.... no candidate would bother with smaller states...... they would concentrate their efforts in just a few select states which have the most delegates or where they need a little extra push......... the same reason after the primaries the candidates from either party wont bother with small states ..... for instance you wont see Obama spending much time in states like South Dakota where there are only 3 votes up for grabs and he has zero chance of winning them....... same goes for Romney.... he wont spend much time in Delaware campaigning for 3 impossible votes

by splitting the states up for primaries the candidates are forced to spread their campaigns out to scrounge for every states votes

Well, eventually yes. But we can assume that their advanced technology would be able to penetrate any glass structure we could construct. Now, we should continue the SETI program and maybe make friends with the aliens.

meh. The candidates would be able to still have their ads. And I personally don't think that the visits have as much impact as people think. Not very many members of the public get to go to those. I think the debates have a far greater impact.

Of course, I don't have anything to back that up. Just my opinion.

The only problem I have with the voting days being spread out is some of these smaller states have the power to filter out candidates based on their localized views of a candidate. Small states that vote based on a candidate's religious views could help give a candidate momentum and force a candidate out before he/she can plead their case to the public of a less religious state.

That's going to be that way no matter what you do. Candidates aren't going to campaign in areas where they think they're not going to win.

Actually, ALL candidates campaign in the first state to vote...then someone drops out. Then all the rest campaign in the next state to vote...then someone drops out. The way it goes, very few states actually get to vote for all of the candidates. I'm in MD and only had four to choose from in this election. In the last election, I didn't have a choice. McCain was it by that time. Obviously, I'd like a choice. Oh, and nobody campaigned in MD. Sucks to be us I guess.

You're right that they do all campaign in the first state to vote. Beyond that I'm not sure I agree. I live in Kansas. Ron Paul's folks held a rally (which he didn't attend) and I think Gingrich came through and made a speech. That was it. Santorum (who won) didn't campaign here and neither did Romney. Santorum saw no point as he figured he was going to win the state by a landslide (he did) and Romney saw no point as he figured he was going to lose anyway. Gingrich and Paul are desperate.

So Gingrich is going to drop out next week and will reportedly endorse Romney when he does. Santorum is meeting with Romney sometime next week. Reportedly they will discuss an endorsement. Only candidate still in the race is Paul who refuses to quit for some reason. No clue why.

You know its all about the money right? Whoever raises the most funds buys the most advertising and gets the most exposure, paid and free. If you had several hundred million to spend on advertising and professionals to market you, you could be a front runner too.

To deny that the media doesn't affect a candidates election chances is a bit myopic. If Paul, Gingrich or Santorum had Romney's money and influence they would have tightened up the race considerably. It was a foregone conclusion from the start. Just follow the money, what's Obama up to now? Almost a billion last time I checked.

He's actually been lauded by speaking experts for his delivery style, the pauses and cadence are deliberate, and effective.

I would agree with them. While I disagree with Obama's politics about 99% of the time, he's a very good speaker.

And, for someone who has to act "presidential" all the time, I think he's great with relaxing and not looking like an idiot like GW did talking off the cuff.
Obama was pretty good on Jimmy Falon. Romney is almost painful to watch and listen to by comparison.

I would absolutely agree........ he has no trouble relaxing........ its the "presidential" part he has trouble with

Alas, I must confess that the GOP has finally done something that benefits me and might make their infestation of my neighborhood tolerable. It appears that I may even have them to thank for my decision to switch over to an android phone.

AT&T making $15 million in upgrades for Republican National Convention - Tampa Bay Times

Yep, AT&T...one of the GOP's biggest donors is spending $15M in upgrades to their network in the Tampabay area to handle all of the extra voice and data traffic (tens of thousands of tweets and facebook updates from our numerous strip clubs). And the majority of upgrades are staying even after the GOP leaves their trash for us to clean up. The fact that Tampabay even has LTE is due to the GOP's plans to hold their convention here.

I've finally found that elusive silver lining to the clusterf**ck that will be Tampa in late August:D

Neither of the major parties is going to go broke any time soon. In fact, if you really wanted to "follow the money" you'd probably find the same people backing both parties.

This is probably the biggest 'conspiracy' theory I spread, though I believe it. I personally think that both parties are run by the same organization and that they are giving us the 'illusion' of choice. I think that this organization is trying to get people to focus on smaller things while pushing their own agenda.

It's like Tide. They sell liquid and powder soap, but it's all Tide.

Even if there isn't a conspiracy, it still sort of happens this way. Large companies very often donate to both candidates campaigns...that way they are covered no matter who wins. I seriously doubt they would ever admit to this practice but I recently heard on the NPR (maybe This American Life?) that companies admitting to doing this, though anonymous sources within the corporations were the ones admitting it.

It appears somebody is following the money. Wonder how much the banks have given to both parties.

Home Owners Across the Nation Sue All Bank Servicers and Their Offshore Havens; Spire Law Officially Announces Filing of Landmark Lawsuit - MarketWatch

"The laundering of trillions of dollars of U.S. taxpayer money -- and the wrongful taking of the homes of those taxpayers -- was known by the Administration and expressly supported by it. Evidence uncovered by the plaintiffs revealed that the Administration ignored its own agencies' reports -- and reports from the Department of Homeland Security -- about this situation, dating as far back as 2010. Worse, the Administration purported to endorse a 'national bank settlement' without disclosing or having any public discourse whatsoever about the thousands of foreign tax havens now wholly owned by our nation's banks."
