rom's kernel's ics's what's that?

Ultra newbie question I know, experts excuse me.

That said, Im having problems understanding the difference between such terms.. in my phone, for instance, (which I sent to a friend in order to get it rooted because I wanted to play a game) I have these info, and have no idea what it means, if it is good, nothing...

Android: 2.3.6
Baseband version: I9100XXKL1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-19100XWKL1-CL809037 root@DELLBUILNDER12 #2
Build number: GT-I9100-eng 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD XXKL1 test-keys

But I do know I have to problems I didnt have before this friend changed the original rom... now I can't sync it using Kies, nor recover the backup I have in there... and... very often, my phone will put itself in "airplane mode", and it is difficult to get it out of there. My guess is that the problem is the ROM? or the Kernel? I have no idea, that's why I subscribed to this forum...

Any help hint info appreciated

From what I understand the Nvidia was released only in the Galaxy R version of this phone. Not 100% sure on that, but pretty sure. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that......

The issues with Kies I answered in your other thread. As far as randomly going into airplane mode. I would go into recovery mode and clear the cache and the dalvik cache as well.

If that doesn't fix it, I would think a factory reset is in order, but once again hopefully someone else can help out here with any other ideas.....

There is a way to play many games on the S2, because of its power.

Yes, regarding Kies, I think its a dead end...

And the problem with airplane mode, so far, seems to be (as far as I have understood by reading many threads in different forums) problem of the particular ROM i got...

Since you are on a Gingerbread ROM, you don't mention which one, and you are rooted... you could upgrade your phone to Ice Cream Sandwich, (ICS, Android 4.0.3) via Odin.

You can do this using the method shown here and then re-rooting your phone by using this guide.

Additional information can be found in post #1, here.

Oh and I still can't play the game I want, is called Galaxy On Fire 2, and it requires an Nvidia chipset...
If you want to play Nvidia restricted GPU chipset games, plus a couple other types of GPU chipsets with your S2, you may be interested to know more about Chainfire 3D.

It requires you to be rooted and it does require some proper reading for you in order to use the app properly... but there are easy guides on how to use the app.

thank you ironass.. I'm a total newbie regarding android.. and the S2.. what's why when I sent the my phone to repair (a scratch) i wanted it to be rooted and debranded.. but since then I have the (random) problem with airplane mode.

That said, I attempted to be as specific as I could, did you see the OP? tell me where can i find which Ginberbread ROM do I have.

I will look at the threads you posted.. any unmissable benefits from going to Ice Cream Sandwich?
