[ROMs] Monaco Releases

I'm guessing Koush will be close to releasing a fully functioning version soon.

I am happy to see the stock rom though for restore purposes.

Not sure if you know this, but if you're going to delete some of what's on the stock ROM, delete it, then rezip the file, because it may cause an error if you try to reflash it. When zipping it try and zip it with the best quality....like "Best" in "WinRAR." If you're going to delete them thru ur phone.....the easiest to understand is Root Explorer. Make sure you mount the system by switching R/W to R/O, and restart your phone after your done editing whatever it is.....

I'd consider it to be worth it if it was actually a vanilla rom, as in stock android because I don't like the TW addons. I almost want to go back to the N1, but not sure I can give up the screen on this. I guess I'll stick with it for awhile and hope it gets better.

It will. It's only been a few days, just gotta give the devs more time. Everyone seems to be having a hard time with Motorola and the Droid X (which they just achieved root today) but the bootloader and everything is still on lockdown. If they can't find a way around it, that mean the attention will flow ever so quickly to the Galaxy S versions. I for one am getting into theming and building ROMs and so on, and I'll be focusing solely on the Galaxy S versions, but til I get good enough and more devs start working, everyone just has to be patient. Trust me, everything will get better with these phones....MUCH better.

hey would you advice to delete TWLauncher within the phone?
i have Launcher pro and home switcher.

if i put launcherpro.apk inside /system/app/
and delete everything that has to do with TW will the phone recognize launcher pro and use it as the homescreen by default?

Yep....as long as LauncherPro is default, there wouldn't be a problem. Make sure you restart your phone afterwards. If you don't restart immediately, you'll still see some of the stuff in there, and when you try to open it, it'll force close. Also you may want to keep a copy of it, just incase you start to miss it lol.

i would try it but there is no stock rom if i decide to go back right?

its weird how the vanillaGalaxyS.update.zip file is 106 MB
and the GalaxySDeodexed.zip file is 63.4MB.

Check the OP I've found the links for the stock ROMs for both the Vibrant and the Capitvate.....well with a little help that is....

Does flashing either of the roms fix the lag on the phone at all?

I'm not sure. I've heard some people saying they don't experience any lag with the TW. What may be causing the lag is so many apps running at one time, which is using up the RAM. These ROMs haven't really been customized, they've just been set up so others can customize it.

I'm getting into developing now, I'm gonna try and build a ROM where you can set the minimum amount of RAM that should stay available, like 50 MB free, 75 MB free and so on. Those features are available in the Droid which should be available on the Galaxy S versions sometime soon.

I am coming from the XDA forum and just wanted to let folks know here in the thread what my findings where.

Koush's new recovery image works wonders now and has allowed me to make a full nandroid backup of my stuck rom. Then I applied the Vanilla zip from this post and all seemed to work fine. The phone was quicker than the stock and the addition of the samsung apps was a nice touch.

The bad however is that you cannot place any phone calls. The dialer will initiate the call but just go quiet. When you check the task manager there are now two phone processes open and only one is killable. So no go for making phone calls

Everything else seemed to work. I did not check the GPS, but google maps and the cell tower based loction service worked fine.

Looks like the cooks are not too far off to get a working rom to us.

Thanks for testing it out.....I'm going to update the OP for the clockwormod link....
