Root ROMs slow down?!

JSS12

Hey all,

I have been rooted on my DINC for almost 2 years now. I have flashed a number of different ROMS, kernels, etc etc. When I flash a new "stable" ROM it works perfectly for about a month, smooth and fast. However, inevitably all ROMs eventually slow down. So far I have found the only fix is to wipe my phone and reload the ROM from scratch (nandroid restore doesn't solve this problem). This isn't the worst solution in the world because with TitaniumBackup Pro I have my phone looking like it was in under an hour.

Just curious, is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening (currently on CM7.1)?

Recently went to MIUI which was nice, but I'm back to CM7.1 - can't wait for stable CM9 but knowing that may be sometime until they get that out I want to keep 7.1 running as smooth as ever..

Thanks!

I've been running the same ROM since November with no slowdown over time. I do however make it a habit of cleaning up the ROM every few weeks. Clear out all my app caches, wipe dalvik and cache in recovery (especially if i've been installing and uninstalling apps and/or themes), clean out old messages, etc. Kind of like with Windows where you are supposed to periodically empty the temp files and such. Must be working because I don't have a problem with lag over time with the ROMs I use.
