Root ROMs with improved functionality

Any ROMs out there that do more than just reskin / optimize performance? Specifically, I'm looking for a ROM that actually improves the functionality of the phone - makes it easier to get notifications and whatnot. My friend got a really nice one on his DX that noticeably improves texting notifications.

Ever since I came from a sammy, I've been a little disappointed in Motorola's implementation of certain things. Just wondering what's out there. I just installed the Alien ROM, but it doesn't look like much has changed.

I can understand that. I have tried the Eclipse ROM and the Molten ROM and so far I like the Molten ROM best. ROM development is pretty new to this phone so I suggest you read around more deeply at XDA developers to see what people have to say about them. I'm not sure what would make things easier to get notifications outside of software, that doesn't really change. However, the fact that the ROMs are stripped down makes them more efficient. I would check them out for yourself and see what your experience is.
 
I'm really bummed. I tried a few ROMs. The best one, imo, the Gingerbread Phone 7 ROM. However, apps just continuously crash with that one, and I can't get any service, no matter what I do. Anyone else have those same issues?
 
I have been enjoying Eclipse, I just got my X2 yesterday since I went through 4 DX's one was stolen and insurance sent me a busted POS that over heated and had a broke power button. So learning everything for the X2 was fun yesterday lol.

So far Eclipse has been nice the only gripe I have is none of the ROMS seem to have support for modding the app drawer, I am installing Eclipse 1.2 right now it looks better but I will see when I get to play with it.

omgu8myrice, did you wipe data and dalvik cache? I know it's a basic question but it seems to be the common issue that causes loss of service or an incorrectly running ROM

EDIT: I just finished installing 1.2 and it works great, I will post up more info after having played with it a bit.

Did you read the XDA thread on it fully? There are bugs and workarounds.
 
Switched from Eclipse to Liberty two weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with Liberty. So far it's a pretty solid ROM. No real issues to speak of other than my media dock doesn't work. Crashes every single time I dock it, but Eclipse did the same thing
