Roms?

Deza1

Newbie
Hey guys, so Im somewhat new to Android and I recently just Rooted my phone,
Im wondering if anyone has a list of some really good Roms and the difference between them.
I have already look at some but I honestly dont see much difference in maybe.
Just seeing if I couldget a bit of help.

Thanks everyone.
Ps, Im on the GS 2x (The Koodo version, which is the same as TMobile)

Hi Deza, take a look at the All Things Root Guide. I just added most of the current roms to it this weekend.

I agree, a lot of them seem similar. the CM10 Jellybean roms have a few different options. If you want something really different try the MIUI roms.

However, when I look at the Instructions I see this part
-Install DarkSide's super wipe from SD card - (Heres the download link)
When I click the DL link though it doesnt find the file. Is it something Ill require or can I be good without it?

Your ok if you do a full wipe in CWM. Darkside will do it better though. You can find the link at the bottom of this post. I would suggest reading through that post.

All done! =D Finally did it this morning, thanks a million for the help!
Just for future reference though I have one question.
Installing most Roms follow the same procedure I take it?
Place ROM zip file in your SD card
Boot into recovery
Create a backup
Do DarkSide's super wipe from sd again
Install Rom (zip)
Then do Darkside Cache wipe
Lastly reboot?

Congratulations! Welcome to the Dark Side. :D

Yep, same procedure (plus gapps if needed), except if your backup is current you don't need to do one each time. I only do a new backup if I have downloaded a lot of apps I don't want to restore/reinstall.

Ahhhh wish I werent such a noob hahaha
But im sorry, I has another question. When a file gives me several options for downloading, how do I know which one is right for my phone?
For example, Im trying to flash DARTHSTALKER.
From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903197
At the bottom, where you find the download links, it gives me three different versions with different MD5s, what are their purpose if you dont mind explaining, and how do I go about selecting one?

They all 3 would work on your phone. He is just doing like most of them do and listing the first release and then each update. The original he first made would be #1 and #3 would be the latest with the most bugs fixed. If you read the CHANGELOG up the page:

★ 9.24.2012
- INITIAL RELEASE VERSION #1

and the latest with the most fixes would be
★ 10.5.2012

You would want #3.

So, usually, always get the latest one. Unless you see people saying its messing up their phone. I'll normally read the last few pages of the thread to see what people are saying about the latest update.

Don't worry about being a noob. We all started out that way. Just don't forget to wipe everything when installing a new rom. You'll be an expert flasher in no time. ;)

I haven't tried that one yet. I may have to check it out this evening. :)

Oh wow, thats my bad hahaha, I really should have read ahead, thanks again!
And hopefully youre right about being an expert hahahaha, this looks like a really nice ROM from what Ive read, Ill be giving the Jedi Mind Trick ROM ago after this depending on how much Ill enjoy this one. Any knowledge on the JMT Rom?

Any knowledge on the JMT Rom?

I haven't tried it in a while. Its a pretty good rom from what I remember. If I remember right, it has 2 versions? If that is correct, I would get the smaller one. The large one has most of the T-Mobile bloat apps.
