Help Rookie questions

Hey guys. New to the site and as my user name & thread title suggests, new to the android. Two questions I have that I'm sure have been discussed here are as follows;

1. My phone self restarts. Dosent matter what Im doing, sometimes doing nothing at all. It just restarts. Ive been told "a hard reboot" is what I need. Just don't know how to do it.

2. Music - I want to download music to my computer then eventually to the phone. My problem is that some of the music my daughter used to download is just plain crappy quality. Where do you get high quality files? itunes? and how do I get them to the phone from the computer?

Thanks for any responses.

You can also purchase MP3s from Amazon. There are also, uh, "other" ways to aquire music, but I don't think advice about that would go over well here! Also, if you have CD's, you can rip them onto your PC and put them onto your phone from there. Or you can do what i do and just use Pandora for music. You don't always hear what you want, but I've heard some great songs that I'd never heard before using it. Plus, it saves you a lot of space in your memory since it's streaming music.

Oh, and as for the restarts, you might want to put what phone you have either in the post or (even better) under your profile name in the Devices section. If we know what hardware you have, then the right people can help with your problem. Welcome to the forum, by the way!

borrow CDs from friends to rip the music from.

or

look in android market.. search "music"...
you can see a bunch of apps that can help you. wink wink!

Thanks for the replies so far and thanks for the welcome. I've put my phone model in my profile. I knew better than to leave that blank.

As for the music, I'd prefer to have legal music that I can store on my computer & my phone. How expensive is it? I guess I should go to itunes to find that out.

As for the automatic & random restarts...........Any thoughts?

Well a hard restart would mean just taking out the battery and putting it back in. Also, if you're having issues with it and I'm guessing you're still under warranty, I would just give Verizon a call and have them give you a replacement (this is if you don't want to bother with trying to fix it).

How often is your phone rebooting on it's own? For the seven months I owned the X, it rebooted on it's own once. So if it's once in a blue moon, then I wouldn't worry about it. However, if it's happening often, then there's an issue. More often than not, it's caused by an app you've installed that's not playing nice with your phone. You can try to find the cause of it by uninstalling some of you third party apps. If you have a task killer installed, try uninstalling it. Worst case scenario, you can always perform a "hard reset" which returns the phone to factory conditions. As a warning, this erases all the data on your phone (not SD card). Everything you've installed or settings you've made will be gone. To do this, go into settings>privacy>Factory Data Reset.

Thanks dylo.
The phone restarts almost daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. I will uninstall the advanced task killer. It dosent do what I thought it would anyway, (I thought it was an automatic thing).

As a side note, I wish either the sales people or the OS producer would tell you up front that the "market" was not totaly safe. Old guys like myself think/thought that everything from the market was put there by the droid people.

Im an idiot.

Thanks again.

Have you upgraded to the latest version of Android? They supposedly fixed these reboot problems...

I've experienced them now and then, maybe once a week. Hopefully this latest update will fix that. If not, maybe it'd be work it to completely reset your phone (remove all data)?? Then if it's still a problem... time to get a replacement! :D

most apps should be fine... of course something could always be buggy. if this stuff doesn't fix your problems, perhaps post a list of what you have installed (In the Market, press the hard menu key and then Downloads)

Uninstalling the "Advanced Task Killer" seemed to help 99.99 %. A week now & only 1 restart. Thanks guys.

I still think we should be warned that crap from "The Market" is not android approved.

hell.. some people on here.. and other forums.. still go around recommending it to newbies.....

it is hard for newbies.. to decided who to trust... even when the sprint employees help them install it at purchase!!!!! This is what non-techies suggest when they got no idea what to suggest.
