Root Root 5.7.893 and NOT restore to 5.5.893?

I'm in a similar situation (running 5.7.893), and frankly I'd like to understand the process a little better anyway. I'd like to root without reverting to 5.5.886, but the methods presented so far seemed to include a Windows executable. Is there a manual method for getting root? Otherwise is there a Linux method?

The manual way is post above using adb and this (R3L3As3Droot And 43V3R Root For The Bionic V2.1 - RootzWiki) has a linux method.

Lol - P3's post is the original manual root method. That is why I go manual - it works where apps / one click solutions may not: 1) b/c of a timing issue, 2) lack of foresight for checking to see if a particular file already exists, etc...

Thanks dfib for posting it.

I agree with John, the 1-click method failed multiple times, whereas the typing method worded the first time.

Thanks P3!!! Works great now whereas one click and petes didn't for me. Is there any way to unroot the phone though?

Actually, I just tried it again and Pete's did work. My phone is unrooted again. Problem is I can't get it to root again using P3's 1 Click Exploit. It states that the phone is now rooted but it isn't when I try it. Any suggestions?
