eagerly await your findings! :D

Wish lists are going to start now, I'm sure (some have already, prior to this exploit). ;)

I have just one: a toggle for the keyboard and softkey back lights, "on," "off," "auto."

Ive been waiting i was worried there for a little while that it might take longer then i would like. has anyone used it yet and it does it actually give you super permissions?

First comes root
Then comes recovery
Then comes custom roms in a baby carriage.

YAY!

:p

Yeah it doesn't rhyme but it has a nice melody. :)

Nice find ^^

I'm going to go ahead and give that a shot. Wish me luck. :D

Btw, it's ok to post that here with credits:

1. Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - LINK to x64 drivers
2. Download and unzip 'Droid 3 easy root script v7 - [ROOT] Droid 3 root instructions (One Click added for Windows/ Linux/ OSX)
3. On your phone: Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
4. Plug phone into computer and select "Charge Only" mode
5. Navigate to 'Droid 3 easy root' folder and run 'Click to root your Droid 3.bat'
6. Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.

You now have a rooted Droid 3 thanks to the hard work of the following:

djrbliss - finding the exploit
framework43 - writing the one click
psouza4 - fixing and refining the one click
krazykrivda - gathering developers and making stuff happen

Yes it sure does. I did the adb method. Took my time since it was my first use of adb shell. Just remember to push a su binary file (which you can get here) to the system/bin folder using adb before downloading and installing the superuser apk from the market. You should be all set after that.

I downloaded root explorer and titanium backup. To test, I copied a random apk file from data/app folder to my sd card and it work flawlessly. I'm about to freeze some verizon crapware with titanium right now. Awesome. I just love the android dev community.

No success.

All the script did to my Droid 3 was remove three icons from my home screen.

No root, no superuser installed, etc.

Checked to be sure proper drivers, etc. .all is good. Scrip ran and ended with "your droid 3 should now be rooted," etc.

Nope.

Go back to that thread and read through... there is apparently a "Version 6" available for download and subsequently a "Version 7 in the oven" as they say. Clearly there are problems with the one click method and it's evolving as we speak. Maybe we should wait until the dust settles. neall

PS: looks like a linux version now, too. N.

@Frisco... kewl.. looks like you got it going. N.

I edited my above post. ;)

I can confirm my phone is rooted and I am backing up/uninstalling with TB now.

Awesome. How long til CM7/MIUI make it over?

I have a DX now, but I'll switch as soon as I can get MIUI on a D3!

Not until a custom recovery or bootstrap are released. That's the next step.

Just being able to delete all of the pre-installed apps will be great. There's so much crap on here straight out of the box.
