Root ROOT Acquired!

Ok. For some strange reason the 1 click method must not have installed su binary and busybox on your phone.

If you're not familiar with adb shell and script commands I would suggest you try the 1 click method again. Maybe do a factory reset first.

Well, I'm pretty new to hacking anything Droid, but following that write up on XDA was VERY easy. I took a risk and put my gonads on the chopping block, but after reading through his instructions once, I was fairly confident. It took about 5-10 mins since I was going slowly and making sure everything was exactly as instructed. I'm posting this through my tethered wifi and it's going great. IMO, I doubt they'll catch on since it hacks it to look as if it's your phone using data and with an unlimited plan, you could really run up the data streaming Netflix to a TV with the HDMI out port, way more than web browsing.

Hellz yeah, ive been using the mess out of this, im still w/o power from the storm...i just charge my laptop and hp touchpad at work, the tethering has been working flawlessly since I did the hack last night...

I removed the angry, foot stamping childishness from that post. Let's see no more of it, please. ;)

If we want less thread merging, that is all that needs to be said, "hey Mods, could we have less thread merging please?" .. etc. The other, emotional stuff just gets people unsettled about the issue and more junky posts ensue.

I've been merging threads into here that ask about tethering and battery life. It's grown too much and now we have an unproductive mish-mash in one thread, so no more merging of those subjects does make sense. ;)

I honestly thought the tethering queries would taper off, and that the battery ones would end quickly, but I was mistaken. Sorry about that.

Questions, requests or complaints, please feel free to PM me. :)

Sorry for the harshness, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and that was really bothering me.

If you could please split them back up (if that's even possible) please do so.

Not a bad idea.. I'll go through and see if I can cull tethering out first into its own thread, then "battery improvement/issues following root."

It might take a bit of time.. hang in there. ;)

Edit: done.. please let me know if anything more needs to be culled from this thread.. there are now these:

Looks fantastic. Much better than the jumbled mess it was ;)

Frisco, feel free to move this if needed but I thought this was the most relevant. So I did the one click root method and I have all the files on my desktop of my laptop. I watched the video of the kid that did the root and everything about my phone did what his did so i'm assuming it went well. However, when I try to use titanium backup it gives me an error upon boot saying "no root or busy box found" Well I have the SU icon in my tray that I can access but I don't know how to check for busybox. Is there a way to check or should I do something else like run one-click again?

The backlight for the DROID 3 keyboard really does need to be fixed. They need to make a good backlight controller for the phone now that the phone can be rooted. The backlight is very annoying.

Update on my previous post, I did the update for titanium that was released today and now it all works perfect. Guess that means my root was fine.

Finally, just rooted my phone. I had to wait until I got to a computer with internet connection(our wi-fi got shot after Irene). I can't wait to take advantage of root :).

and here I was telling myself I wasn't going to root another phone.. haha
