Root root and AT&T sim use from iphone

Not quite yet. See rooting is not quite the same as unlocking. Rooting basicly gives you Admin access on your device, but does not unlock it.
 
No. I think AT&T have done something with their custom firmware to block services from any other SIM that isn't the included pay-as-you-go data-only SIM. I tried taking the SIM from my aircard and putting that in, to no avail...

You really need/should flash to the European firmware.

Also, if you've got an iPhone 4, you'll need an adapter for the microSIM.
