Root ROOT and OTA updates

I have a question about root and ota updates. This probably has been answered a thousands of times on these forums so sorry. I'm new to the android world.

I mainly wish to root my incredible for tethering. After rooting, would I lose ability to receive ota updates? If yes, is this a big disadvantage or do rooted versions of these updates become available fairly quickly also?

As long as you don't delete the bloatware off of the phone then you can receive updates while rooted. A few weeks ago the .340 update was released for the X and mine updated just fine. I was rooted at the time. The update did break root and I need to reroot the phone however.

Typically, they are leaked well ahead of time and we have already been running it way before it hits everyone else's phone via OTA.

Sometimes we don't get OTA nags but sometimes they come through, seems to vary by the particular update. They should fail if you try to load them but if it did work for some reason, you may lose root as they are always trying to close our current root exploits.

Some custom Roms will block out OTA notifications altogether. If they do come through and you don't want to load, there are steps we can take to make them stop.
