Help Root and Titanium Backup

Aliloopy

Newbie
My phone was rooted by OneClickRoot but Titanium Backup Free keeps closing and the Pro version can't be opened. It shows in the Apps list but there is no icon for it. Please advise. OneClickRoot tell me they don't give help with Apps.

Also, to note, there is no separate app for the pro version. It's really just a key that unlocks the pro features in the free app. It does show up in the apps list but it's not a separate application that you run.

As for it crashing, what device are you using? Also, I think it requires busy box which you can install from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox

As suggested, double check that you have root. If you are rooted and installing busy box doesn't make a difference, you might contact the developers.

Is the app giving any error messages that you can see upon it closing or before it closes?

Thanks for response. Device is nexus 6P Android version 7.0. According to Root Checker it is properly rooted and Busy Box is installed. No message other than "app keeps closing, try starting app again"

Interestingly since posting my query I've tried SuperSU with similar results ie. the Pro version is in the app list but can't be opened but free version works fine.

Did they install SuperSU pro & Titanium backup pro or did you get the apps from Google play store?

A couple thoughts that come to mind. First, was TiBu denied root access? Whether that means you never got prompted, missed the prompt or denied it at the prompt.

If you open SuperSU can you see whether or not TiBu was granted root access?

A second thought, less likely, but maybe permissions issues? Can you check the permissions for Titanium and make sure nothing is disabled that should be enabled?

I installed them from Play Store. Have tried reinstalling several times.
When you're reinstalling them, are you just hitting the 'Uninstall' button before reinstalling? If so try tapping the 'Force stop' button, then the 'Clear data' button, and then the 'Uninstall' button. Clearing the data will wipe any previous settings and things. Then once you reinstall apps like Titanium Backup the first time you launch it will start up using new defaults. Maybe some previous setting was hanging things up.

Good thinking, thanks. There is no mention of Titanium in SuperSU or its logs. Forgive ignorance but where do I check permissions? Iwill try clearing data and forcing stop then reinstalling.

You can see a list of apps on the apps tab. Red # indicates root access was denied. If nothing shows up there then there are no apps that have been granted or denied access.

Perhaps the app is crashing before it can request root access.

Any reason you went with the root method you chose as opposed to flashing the binaries through TWRP? Not that it's a problem but it might be.

See if you can grant this app root access:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nolanlawson.logcat

If you can, start this app, then open Titanium then stop this app. It will log any errors that happen.

Then you could contact the developers and attach the logcat. That would give them any information they need to see what's going wrong.

I tried searching around to see if there were any others with a 6p that had issues with Titanium backup but I didn't find anything useful so far.

Many thanks to you all. Not 100% sure what worked! but all good now! I went with one click root as I'd had a good experience with them before with my HTC ONE Mini 2 using CWM. I'm not confident enough to flash myself but having root enables me to learn more about Android.
