Root root changes?

If I root my SGR -- what will happen, exactly? Aside from getting superuser permissions and thus being able to run a few more things than the average user, like Titanium Backup.

Once I root it, is there anything I can do to improve its performance or battery life? I observe that these two things have downgraded rapidly starting about two weeks after I bought & started using it.

I can only guess that putting apps on it slows it down and makes it perform worse, but let's face it -- apps are what make phones like this useful tools in the first place.

For battery and performance download greenify, what it does it it allows to to selectively hibernated problem apps when your phone's screen if off. For performance download seeder. Seeder speeds up your phone by eliminating random lagging. Both of these apps work as they say they do, and they make my phone noticeably faster, as well as prolonging the battery life.

thanks for the tips. Do you know anything like Greenify that doesn't require root? I don't have that at the moment.

And Seeder is both paid AND root. Ugh.

They need root access to carry out their functions, so there can't be any non-rooted apps like it

There's really no need to pay for seeder (in fact many people will tell you to stay away from it)

If you still want it many kernel devs will bake it into their kernels for free.

I guess that's why I asked about rooting in the first place -- whether it would improve my battery life and/or performance. So I guess the short answer is that it will, but I have to root AND install these apps.

I don't recall there being a free version of Seeder ... though I could well be wrong.

Rooting your phone just gives end user system level access nothing else. Also dont "install all these apps" you will kill your batt faster than whatever was prior rather just underclock and remove system apps that are constantly running in the background. Also disable auto time config as this equates in more power use

Here's what works wonders for the OE:

Low minimum clock speed.
High maximum clock speed.
smartassV2 as the governor for the CPU, if available.

Also, JuiceDefender, and a debloated ROM. Even better: keep 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, and NFC off when you don't need them (brightness and wifi too).

This combo takes the OE from 12 hours (with all radios disabled) of battery life to a regular 48 (with some radios enabled, even frequently). I'm figuring it might work some wonders for the Reverb too.
