Root Root Explorer

Complete newbie, so please be gentle with me!
Version 1.1 rooted with Autonooter 3.0

What is root explorer and do I need it on NC? Also, seem to be missing "adb", whatever that is. I just want to be able to run non-market apps! Seems I need to put them in /system/app - but do not see how to do that on NC. No menus, etc. Did I miss something in the rooting - or not finish it?

Root explorer is a file browser that lets you view, rename, copy files on your rooted phone. Astro is a free version, similar app.

Adb is installed on your computer to communicate with your Nook via scripts (text commands). I have never needed it to root my NC's or to install custom roms. Many scripts can be run from recovery, which is installed by Rom Manager.

I've got Phiremod 6 (custom rom) installed on both of mine. (Installed on the Nook, not on a sd card.)

Many android apps require a sd card (like web browsers for storing downloads) and you'll want to use Rom Manager to backup your stock (rooted) rom before installing a custom rom. I'd suggest at least an 8gb micro sd card, but I have a 16gb card on mine. The max size is 32gb, but they're pretty expensive tho ~$50-60.

Ordered a 16gb class 10 SD from Amazon - should be here next week.
So I need to install a ROM manager or Astro, or both?
Guess I need to do some more reading here.
 
You'll want a way to connect that micro sd card to your computer.

Install Astro, just in case you need it. Root Explorer, which I own, cost about $2 or so. I use mine but I'm a computer IT guy by day so know how to use it so why buy it if you'll only use it once a year?
 
My current 2gb SD card shows up as a drive now when I connect to PC. Astro will do more? Will check it out.
 
Astro lets you browse your rom's files too. Last time I used Root Explorer to copy a custom boot animation file from my sd card to a folder on the rom, then renamed the file to bootanimation.zip :D
