Help Root Failing,..... ;(

Newbie
I'm basically stumped right in the begining of the process,... Step #1 works the "adb reboot bootloader"
It's the second part i can't get to work, ghetting the token. The command I'm using is "fastboot oem get_identifier_token"
The phone is in the bootloader, but inside the command prompt it just says < Waiting For Device > and dosen't do anything.
I'm pretty sure I've installed all the driver and such, and there are no yellow exclamation marks under the Device Manager.
One thing though, I am running Windows 8 RC, I havent upgraded to pro yet, but one of the times i was trying to install a box came up and said something about not being compatable with my version of Windows. If amyone can help me ghet rooted I'd be in your dept. I've rooted my old Optimus V bevfore and put tons of roms on it and such, so i do have some idea what to do, but cant get this going,....

Mrmmm I THINK your problem could be Windows 8 related...

I assume on your fastboot screen it just says fastboot and not fastboot USB? that means that you don't have the drivers installed.

Do you have a windows 7/XP PC you could use? (Honestly, I did it on Linux, and it worked just fine.)

When it goes into the bootloader it just says fastboot and no usb, however if i move the highlighted section up or down the usb shows up,..... And no both pc's in the house are windows 8,....

windows 8 computers are new. assuming that you had bought this win8 pc fairly recently leads me to believe that you have an old computer that you may not be using. how tech savvy are you? what i would do is install a new hdd in your box and throw a copy of winxp on it. when you want to do your rooting stuff just shutdown open your case and swap your wires to the other hdd. (this is assuming you feel comfortable doing this)

now to make the copy of windows legit you need to completely stop using the old computer with them numbers on the side. as long as you are not using it it will be legit (i normally wipe the old hdd in this case [this is where you can get the second hdd from]) if you DONT have a win install disk you CAN download it from the internet and this is completely legit also just DONT download numbers with it (it is now piracy at this point). be careful and i hope this helps!

So you select "Fastboot" on the bootloader screen, and it doesn't say "fastboot USB" in red? Hrm.

Did you install the HTC Sync drivers, by any chance? I can't say if it is or is not compatible with Windows 8, but it is worth a shot.

This is exactly what I do, I have my raid partitioned to boot Win 7 64 bit and XP 32 bit. Next to impossible to have any sort of driver issues with this setup. :p
