Root folder

Hi

My S3 root folder shows up as /mnt/sdcard and my SD card as /mnt/extSdCard.

Does that sound right to you as it doesn't to me

Thanks

Thanks

My old rooted HTC Desire had the root folder as C:\ and the SD card partitioned, main one SD card and the other partition SD Ext :)

Thought I was going round the bend! :D

No, c: is a windows directory. Its the root directory of a windows machine

Our desires, when partitioned had /sdcard and /sd-ext where as now we have /sdcard and /extsdcard.

...Two totally different set ups and two different meanings for ext. Here it means external where as on the desire, it means extended file system.

Hi

Many thanks for clarifying that.

Don't know why they call the internal drive /sdcard though, why not /internal? :o

I agree, it can be a bit confusing.

It really should be /data IMHO. and then /sdcard for the actual removable sd card

My theory is that the internal memory is called /sdcard for backwards compatibility purposes. Like apps that download extra content will download it to the /sdcard partition.

I suppose that would make sense in that you then would not be "bound" by having an external SD card.

That and there is already a /data folder that is used by the OS

Obviously. My point is why is it not part of /data

Thank you! It would make things a bit more organized, as opposed to trying to spread everything out.. in fact, if all of the games that needed backwards compatibility were connected to /data instead of an sdcard, that would simplify it as well. now I know that's taking it a little overboard there, what with internal memory what it used to be, and the convenience of separating everything you use, with everything the OS uses.. but if it were that easy we could all design our own phones and I don't think HTC would make as much money.. besides, game info doesn't take up that much space.. unless you're a gamer..

My thoughts now, after much more experience of the setup is that there is no perfect answer.

My best idea would be a samsung application that will redirect /sdcard to /extSdCard for each app individually. Perhaps a notification of applications manager that allows you to change the default directory

After upgrading to JB, I noticed that the internal card was renamed to /sdcard0 instead of just /sdcard (Using the stock My Files app).

Is this normal? Not really a big deal as it seems to point to the internal sd card anyway, just curious.
