Root Root from Ubuntu 10.04

Lurker
I have been searching for a way to root my Intercept from Ubuntu, and all the ways that I found, make me compile a bunch of crap, and then don't work. I was wondering if there was a way, like the Windows program that people normaly use. I have tried Wine, and it doesn't work at all. Once installed it immedietly crashes, so it doesn't work.

Anyways, if there is a easier way to do it on linux I'm all ears. I've been using Linux for about 7 years now, and Ubuntu for about 3, so I know pretty much what I'm doing.

P.S. Please don't suggest an emulator or a virtual PC. Takes to much time, and I HATE Windows.

why don't you update to Ubuntu 10.10?

Yeah, my bad. I am up to 10.10, just forgot about it

I am using kitchen now and when I flash the custom ROM in recovery mode, it says this

-- Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Now, I tried to update with the stock ROM, with a custom ROM, and with a ROM that was signed by kitchen, but they all said this... What am I missing?

Seems like the "digital signature" i believe is what it's called failed authenticity.
From what I know.

I am now trying to use SuperOneClick, and it keeps crashing. I have all the prerequisites and have done all the programming things on my computer, but every time I click a button on any version of SuperOneClick, it crashes. Here is an example of what the output is when I click the "Shell Root" on version 1.8

name@computername:~/folderpath$ sudo mono SuperOneClick.exe

I was wondering if it is something that I did wrong on the prerequisites, or it's just the program itself.

Okay, so I got through all the crap of flashing my phone on abd with a custom recovery(Inxane's Custom Recovery). So now I have rebooted my phone into Recovery Mode and it shows the custom recovery. Then I rebooted and did some other stuff with the phone, nothing in the system files, and when I rebooted again, *POOF*, it was gone!

So now I am stuck with the stock recovery, and now my phone is only connecting every 20 minutes. When it connects, it doesn't stay on for long. So, I am wondering, is it something I did in the process that screwed it up, or something that I need to do, that I didn't do.

Also, when I get to the custom recovery, can I just install a custom rom, or kernel without root? Or do I need to flash a custom kernel.

FYI: I am still using Ubuntu 10.10 and using abd. I put all the extra text in the system files on Ubuntu, so I know that it isn't my computer's fault.

Oh man! I hope this is going to easier. I have struggled like crazy to root my intercept on Win7 (32 and 64)... went on to load a VM with XP and still could not get it going and not am loading a VM with Ubuntu 11.11. Over my dead body I could not get windows to recognize my intercept, so I am going to give Linux a shot.

My worry is that most rooting tools I have seen thus far run on Windows. If there are any that will run on Ubuntu I also want to know.

[GUIDE] - How to gain permanent root using ADB Tool - Without Rooted Kernel/ROM

Since it seems like you know what you're doing with the unix style terminal this guide might be of some help. If adb doesn't work from your computer (though I don't see why it wouldn't, unless that's the reason superoneclick isn't working. . .) you can get all the files on your sd card and use a terminal emulator from the market to move them to the right places & such.

another option is the InterceptRoot app
Intercept Root Apk and Recovery flasher
(you can also find it in the market)
