Root Root Guide?

I just got a Charge. I came from a DX which I rooted. This is my first non-moto android phone. Is there a guide to walk me through? With the DX I could SBF if something went wrong. Is there anything like that ?

Well instead of sbf we have what we call "ODIN" at tge site the member provided above you will find the links to the odin download, kernels, roms, themes etc.
 
How safe is it to root the Charge? I really want to remove some apps and get change the default orange theme. Any suggestions on best rom? Anything I need to watch out for?

Its great and safe to root..im rooted and have gotten rid of the orange theme...what i did was after rooting i went to xdaforums.com and dwnloaded imnuts kernel called PEANUTBUTTA JELLY TIME, then got his CWM file to get clock work mod, then flashed kejars gummycharged 1.7.5 rom then flashed gunnermikes red volt 1.0 theme...all instructions are on xdaforums.com..p.s gunnermike has a few other themes rather than red if you want.
 
Ok, I rooted with peanutbutta Jelly Time. Two stupid questions. How can I do a backup (in case I don't like a rom)? and how can I tell if I have voodoo enabled/disabled?

You can dwnload "mybackup root" or "titanium backup" from the market to back up your phone. First you have to install cwm from same guy who made pbj time then when the phone powers on again you should hear a robotic womens voice telling you its enabling voodoo should take about 2-5 minutes..
