Root Root has landed

I think I'm holding out at least until the weekend so if there's not a one-click solution I can take the time and carefully follow all the steps. but VERY happy to see I'll be able to kill all the bloatware.

That's awesome considering the hole that allowed the droid x root was supposedly fixed before 2.2 was released. lol.

When I see a clockwork on droid 2 screen shot, it will be time to celebrate more.

How offensive/in your face is blur on the D2, anyway? Can you turn it off if you want?

Thinking about asking VZW for a D2 if my fourth D1 refurb is also not working right...

Install launcher pro and you won't notice it. You can even hide apps you don't use from the app drawer. Once rooted you can even remove all the bloat like blockbuster, skype, etc that eats up your precious memory.

Has anyone sucessfully rooted their phone yet? Should we be waiting for a recovery to be worked on until we start removing programs? Anybody?

Here is a list of removable apps for the DX

Until there is recovery or an sbf file I wouldnt go to far with removing apps though. Removing this like blockbuster and city id probably wont cause you any problems but I wouldnt go overboard with it.

I dont have a D2 though so I havent tried any of this....

Is there a "best" root thread/walk through? I read through some of the stuff, but it got daunting with the 1 click vs the long way, the horror stories, and all of that.

I would like a "this is how you do it, this is how to unmess it up" guide...

I am aware of the risks and all of that, just need pointed in the right direction.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! I'm pumped I've been drooling over android phones and android OS since the original Moto Droid came out and i can upgrade to a new phone in two weeks :D goodbye voyager, hello Droid 2.

I'll be sitting down this weekend and attempting Root, I just gotta finish a paper for class before I allow myself the un-distracted time. :D

I'm a rooting newb but when I download the Motorola drivers and try to install them, it says that newer versions already exist. I haven't plugged my D2 into my computer but I did plug my DX into it. Are the drivers the same or do I need to try and remove the previous drivers and install the ones listed?

I'd clean up your computer of all Moto drivers, start completely clean so that you don't risk some conflict of compatibility.
