Root ROOT hboot 0.83??

I've rooted with hboot 0.83 using unrevoked. haven't tried downgrading the hboot but i want to know if i am able to debrand. the fw is 1.24 i think and its on vodafone

Welcome to the forum
If you have rooted then you should already be running an unbranded os,
there are loads on here you can try just pick the one you like.
They are all better than the OTA froyo.

Thanks. It isnt unbranded but it is rooted. I have read that if I upgrade then i wont be able to debrand. And could you give me a link to a good rom please. thanks alot

I have the same issue and i have tried the arabic 1.30 RUU but it says customer id error (code 131) and wont flash. The other RUU's say bootloader error (code 140) and wont flash either. I guess we have to wait for the froyo RUU with hboot 0.92. I think that has been made rootable by the time the RUU for it comes. And if not, the downgrade tutorial we followed with hboot 0.83, is made for hboot 0.92 and has worked with them and AFAIK nobody has had issues with that.

if you used the unrevoked one click tool, you can tell if you're rooted because when you boot using volume down + power, there should be a clockwork recovery mode that you can enter..

I too am hoping to debrand my Desire, on Orange, current bootloader is 0.83.00001. I used unrevoked and it says it was successful, however when I boot holding the back butted it still says HBOOT 0.83, so surely it couldn't have been successful?

EDIT: I just found an icon called Superuser Permissions, I have followed a guide and now have 'unknown' (my computer) listed as Allow.

Unrevoked doesn't downgrade hboot. To downgrade you'd need to apply an official RUU with a goldcard, but if you have hboot 0.83 on a new phone, downgrading it will probably stop the display from working. Basically it seems those of us on hboot 0.83 can only run official roms.

Go careful if your phone is orange branded, you may end up getting simlocked

OK, I used the unrevoked method, all seems fine and I can run programs that state in their description that they are for rooted devices only, for example, I can use ShootMe and Wireless Tether with no issues at all.

Orange branded handsets seem ok when you use that method, its about the only method that doesn't cause simlock.

OK, so now what are my options?

(As you can tell, I am new to Android) :)

EDIT: The only weird thing is when I boot holding the back button it still says I am on HBOOT 0.83...?

using the unrevoked method doesn't downgrade you hboot mate..

you can have a look at custom roms over at xda, but you run them on your phone at your own risk :)

and read things carefully. some say they'll take a few minutes to become stable, so don't panic like i did when it hangs on the bootscreen :p

I think panicking comes as standard on first attempt, your phone appears to sit there doing nothing & your brain goes into overdrive.
Then the phone boots up after what seems an age & you start breathing & relax again. lol

As far as I am aware u can root 0.83 but no one has successfully managed to load a custom Rom am I correct in saying so or have one off u managed to?
