Root help

Hi, I'm new to smart phones and have heard a lot about rooting my evo. I'm really interested and already know much about it. My question though is, if I do root my phone, do I lose my service? Is there any penalty that sprint can give me? I've heard of rooting making the phone unusable, but is it common? Is there any charge that sprint can give me? and what would happen if I took my rooted phone into the sprint store? Thank you!!:D

I'm far from a root expert. I've owned an android phone for over a year now and have never felt the need to seek root. Many do root their phones and love them.
The best place for all of your root questions will be in the root section for your Evo phone. Here is a link to the Evo 4g root section. If you have the 3d Evo you should check into it's sub form for rooting instead. EVO 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums You will likely find the answers to your questions by just reading some but feel free to ask your questions if you can't find what you are looking for. I hope you enjoy the forums.

Welcome to Android Forums! Let me answer you questions as best as I know how.

1) You do not lose service if you root.
2) An unusable phone is a "bricked" phone. If you brick your phone, you flash the recovery back to stock and start all over again. I must have bricked about 20 times or more, as I was learning. Sometimes things happen and you brick or keep looping back to the boot animation. It happens. You restore. You're fine!
3)As I understand it, Sprint has the most liberal of policies to root users. You should be fine returning it. Many people, however, will restore their phones back to stock before returning it to the store.

I hope this helps you!
