Maybe they found a hole in one some of the Evo-specific code (e.g. something that deals with 4G or the front-facing camera).

I think the original posting of this mentioned that it wouldn't work on the incredible

Good thought, but I am afraid it isnt in there :( been knee deep in the Evo Rom for a bit now....was hoping as well.
But we are making progress and think we found a new exploit....we will see.

Im rooting for you acidbath and the rest of the dev's trying to root the Inc, good luck.

Ignore the pun :P

I tried to search before posing this question but it seems most of the info i find is speculative. Will applying the OTA update for the Incredible effect my ability to root when that becomes possible?

Thanks Wayne, always respected ur work, even though I was a WinMo ROM chef and never went to the RIM Darkside ;)
Oh and great site, I check it often for news.

thanks, if there is ANYTHING you need me to do to help hit me up wayned@wjddesigns.com any graphic work or anything to help the root... obviously I know also how to get my hands dirty so if you need somethin don't hesitate - I am only here to help and show off my android :) lol

PS. Thanks for checkin out the site - I was planning to do a very late INC review but I keep adding crap to the video it can do haha I feel I won't do this thing any justice... but I will try...

Not a problem, I saved ur email.
And yeah its tough putting reviews together, done a couple myself and My OCD never let's me reach a finish point, hit me up if u ever need help.
I shot ya an email.

Cheers!

This is amazing news. I want Froyo badly, and I want to see how stock 2.2 is going to run on here. I'm assuming it's going to be extremely fast. :)

Oh gosh. I'm so excited.

Thanks to all the devs who are making this possible!

So freakin excited even though i got a bum incredible that verizon is giving me hell to swap out. But the Jake dude seems to be screwing with us and I doubt he rooted it but im still hoping. His lack of proof and saying he and his friend casually rooted their phones when alot of exp. devs can't get it seems highly highly suspicious to me when you add the fact he says he can't remember

Well, this is just more speculation, but, I believe it all depends on what exploit is found to root the phone. The OTA update deals with a Microsoft Exchange bug so I don't think having this update on the phone will be an issue. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

Also want to thank all the devs as well for their hard work they've been putting in to finding a root method for the Incredible! You guys rock! Keep it up!

...

couldn't you do a hard reset on the device to get rid of the OTA, or does it embed itself in the rom? just a shought

Luck can be a massive factor in hacking. It involves a ridiculous amount of trial and error ( thats why I don't...I never could keep at it long enough, lol. ), but if you just happen to guess the right exploit to attempt and try early on, you can hit the jackpot....or it can be the last thing you think to try.

I'm not saying this person is telling the truth or anything, and also remain skeptical, but the possibility is definitely there.
