yea i loved winmo till wm7 locked the system down to make it iphone like... not cool!

I hear ya...Sadly we all seem to be moving on...
Android is fun though :)

wm's loss is our gain. all android lovers welcome you talented and dedicated individuals with open arms.

What is this? Being totally new to Android I am guessing it is something Android specific?

I think he was refering to Microsoft Silverlight use...like browser/flash support....at least thats what i assumed....

28/Apr r1 - HTC Desire rooting guide - Android @ MoDaCo

So who wants to see if this will work on the Incredible? Actually, don't, since it involves flashing a Desire ROM, so I doubt it would even flash. But hopefully a similar method will work on the Incredible.

My Incredible will be delivered tonite...so I will start messing with it tmrw :)

Thanks, I didn't even make that connection. I do know there is a beta for Firefox out there for Android though.

Great news acidbath....I can't wait to see what can be done with the Incredible now that the Desire has been rooted and a guide put up. I eagerly await your progress (wish I could help, but until I get the Incredible, I'm just a spectator here LOL)!!!

Yep....I bet that it will be done before I even get a chance to look into it...
Lots of Devs all over getting looking into it :)

I am bummed I won't have the Incredible in the near future (not sure where I got the idea the new every 2 was only $50, but it is $100 and I can't afford to lose that much money to get one early....but can you imagine it....in a few months I will get this device for $99!!!!!!) but I am getting excited about all the progress already made.

Acidbath...I tend to agree with you. With my experience with flashing/cooking, I know this is the hard part, once the ROM is cracked and a kitchen built (rooting) it is fast + furious after that!!!!

MY EVIL PLAN IS WORKING!!!
I mean...carry on :D

LOL...I knew you were behind it ;)

Yeah I hear ya....Hope to have a great ROM for ya when u get one....
Or I may just like the phone as is for awhile...

I'm thinking you will have a lot released in the long three months I have left!! I think I will run it native for at least a month to get the feel of the device and Android in general, but I already know a few things I intend on doing that need rooting to accomplish, so a root is a given for me (as long as it is easier than it sounds in that Desire guide....wow a lot different than plugginf the phone to a PC, running UMDL, finding the ROM and hitting a button LOL!!!

Reports are that Verizon and HTC went the extra mile trying to stop non-approved kernel and rom revisions with Inc. Not long to see if that is accurate or not. Rooting may be a lot easier than the actual changing of the OS.

Wish the community luck! :)

Thats a good plan....I am going to take a short break once i get the Incredible and get back on it later on...

so...my upgrade period isnt until 6/16...
but the verizon CS on the phone said we can early upgrade u on 4/14...im going to wait to 5/15 cause i got my eris on wirefly and u have to have the phone for 6mths. but dude...u shouldnt have to wait 3months!
also, you can early upgrade with a fee ($20, i called and asked) now.
im just putting it out there for ya bro! :)

to be honest...im with u.
first, i dont wanna mess with my warranty (though, they could tell with the eris, i dont believe they will with the inc.).
second i wanna hear all the complaints everyone has.
lastly, android out the box is good!
i only wanted root on my eris for 2.1 and google nav.
saving to the SD wasnt a big deal cause the apps are small!
also, i dont need all the apps i have.
and i still have 78megs free!
but...i just want to know that the option is there so...NO BREAKS ACIDBATH!!

joke ;)

I will call and see what they say, an early upgrade is $199 but the new every 2 is worth $100, bringing the total down to $99, so $20 is an option I would do. If you heard any special terms or names of the deal I would love to hear them.

I agree with all you just said here. I have heard Android and Sense is very good out of the box, eventhough I like being able to install apps on SD it isn't a deal-breaker for me and I want to feel out the new-user issues that will start popping up any day now.

Just curious, does anyone know why the root method on the Desire wouldn't necessarily work exactly the same on the Incredible? Since they are practically the same phone anyway.

Will we be able to run Desire ROMs and kernels on the Incredible, or will the devs have to make a version specifically for the Incredible? Apologies if it's too early to know the answers to any of these questions.

I Just called verizon and said "i read online its a early upgrade option for a $20 fee" she said let me look it and confirmed. read it verbatim.
i could have said, i`ll take that now and got the pre-order incredible right then and there.

LOL...Sorry never a B.B fan here :)

With you on that...had a storm for a little bit n it drove me crazy! Android is where it's at! Like Winmo but from what i hear its win7 is gonna be a locked system which blows but im an android person anyways. Getting my inc on friday and cant wait...any ideas on how high you'd be able to oc the inc? Not that it really needs to be...

As far as WinMo 7, I am pretty sure it will be able to be hacked and toyed with.....some great great Devs I know over at XDA like D_ag and chainfile and Noonski will for sure be able to hack away at it...

As far as over clock is concerned, I have never really been a big fan of it...and I am sure we will be able to, but I agree with you it might be rather pointless...
