Root Root Issues

So. Decided to root and now my phone is acting crazy.

Followed the videos to first do the root using odin. Used the proper FL24, when it was done checked the root using root checker and it said it was good.

Then I followed the video to put the Agat recovery on my phone with mobile odin. I booted into the recovery using the up/power button. It looked just like the video.

Now my phone keeps restarting, the icons don't pop up, it pops up the five screens view (APEX launcher), restarts again, so on and so forth.

I took the battery from my wifes phone to check to see if that was the issue, but the problems have continued.

Not sure what to do, please help.

So I have found out that it is the Agat recovery that is causing the issue. How do I switch over to the clockwork recovery instead? I am worried that if I try to do it through mobile odin the phone could restart in the middle (it does it every min or so).

Anyone out there please help me.

I managed to find an unroot to go back to fl24. It worked but unfortunately reset my phone completely to stock. I have re-rooted and am waiting to find out what the proper custom recovery should be. I have been unable to find a clockwork recovery for fl24. everything on this thread seems to be for the previous build (FI28?)

a link to a good recovery would be super appreciated.

so this is clockwork recovery? If so thanks!

What is the EL26? Is this what people refer to as the "modem"?

Sorry if that is a noob question, but it is difficult to follow all the naming.

Last question, what rom would you recommend that is clean, stable and good on battery?

It's a recovery based off of clockwork, so partially.

EL26 is a Gingerbread kernel/recovery. The safest recovery to flash any rom or anything actually from.

It's very easy for a new root user to get the kernels/recoveries confused with modems, but no. Modems is what makes your 3g/4g data to work properly.

You shouldn't have any reason to flash a JellyBean modem unless your flashing a JellyBean TouchWiz rom.

In which case if you do, can't be flashed via mobile odin, only recovery.

My recommendations:

Slim Bean
PACman
CyanongenMod 10.1

So just to make sure, all three of those that you listed (Cyanogen, Slim, Pac) work with this recovery?

To flash these roms do I make a folder on my sd card and apply it from the recovery menu (pwr and vol up)?

As long as you've got the rom you want to flash on your sd card, no need to make any folder.

The roms I listed will work with this recovery.

Thanks again. I will do this after work.

As an aside, it might be a good idea to make a note not to follow the video to flash Agat recovery in the root thread. It is unstable right now.

I followed this for FL24:

Root the Samsung Epic 4G Touch on FL24

I watched the videos twice each, then followed them step by step with my phone. I read in the comments for the Agat that it was happening a fair amount.

Also, I can't seem to find downloads for the roms you listed. I checked Rwilco12's repository and XDA. If you have a chance can you link me please?

Shameful to admit but i chickened out last night. As I was trying to decide which of the three to use I vapor locked and couldn't seem to continue. On the cyanogen it said that a full wipe was required and I didn't know if I wanted to start from scratch with my apps and such.
