Root Root lost after Verizon 2.01.605.11 update

I had permanent root and was perfectly content.

I thought everything went perfect and now realize I have lots root after the Verizon 2.01.605.11.

I literally can't live wtihout root on this phone. I use too many awesome rooted features.

I tried running the perm root script version 1.2 from

It still didn't work properly. This is going to make me nuts. Any solutions.
 
I have the same problem. I didn't even get a chance to decline the ota before it installed. My phone was sitting on the charger and when I came back it was in the middle of installing. Very frustrating! It also seems to me that the battery is draining quite a bit faster after the update. I hope there is a new root option very soon!

WOW! I havent updated yet and I hope I can avoid it! Have u by chance tried going thru HTC's website to unlock the bootloader again?
 
OTA updates will always break root. Also every time an update comes out its not always guaranteed that the same root methods will work. In the past i have always cautioned people to hold off on the update if possible until the Dev community has had a chance to check it out.
 
I haven't done the OTA yet, but over at XDA there is a thread where people have confirmed that they were able to get perm root back after flashing the OTA update.

[CONFIRMED] Root after OTA - xda-developers

As I understand the instructions, after running the OTA update, if you had to relock your bootloader, you unlock it again, and then flash a custom recovery to your phone. In this case he used Amon RA recovery. If you're uncertain how to flash a custom recovery, download the file from xda-developers - View Single Post - [Recovery] Amon Ra style vigor, and put in in the folder where you have the adb and fastboot tools located. Use the following command to flash the recovery:

fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.13-gnm.img

Then when you boot into recovery, you go to the Developer Menu and use the "Install su and superuser" option.

When you reboot after that you should have regained full root privileges.

Trophy any suggestion on how to be 100% sure to avoid the OTA for users like keithk58, didnt even get the option and the phone updated itself?

there is a file in system/etc called "otacerts.zip" if you delete or rename it,the OTAs will download,but not install. thats about the best you can do without running a custom rom.

my 2 cents for folks that just run rooted stock with htc dev unlock:

just let the OTAs happen and dont stress about it.

youve allready gotten permission.youve sacrificed all or parts of your warranty for the gaurantee to be able to always re-root.

dont actually flash a recovery if youre not going to be frequently using it. you can boot it into the phones memory with this command: fastboot boot <recovery name>.img in my case,i use amon so i use: fastboot boot recovery-ra-vigor-3.13-gnm.img

by keeping the stock recovery,the OTA will harmlessly apply. sure it will break root,but who cares? afterward just boot to fastboot,run the above command,and either flash the superuser.zip or use the recovery optin to install su(ive never done it that way,however... i always just flash superuser as zip file)

my 2 cents anyway. OTAs usualluy are good. they make refinements in the code to make it run better. sometimes youll get a better radio. its silly to avoid them just so you wont have to "break root" :)

weird, I dont c otacerts.zip in my system/etc folder and I'm not running a custom ROM...

I have a brand new Rezound and have been having problems rooting. I now suspect it is because before I attempted to root it, I installed the OTA. Essentially, I unlocked the boot loader and then tried the instructions for the oneclickroot. The script runs, but there are errors related to the /data/local/tmp file system being Read/Write only. I have definately checked all the options but its not working. Any ideas? (USB debugging turned on, bootloader is unlocked, etc.)

Thanks! Found it, uploaded it to dropbox and then deleted from my phone. Decided to allow the OTA, went to dropbox to put the file back on my phone and no otacerts.zip in dropbox. Can I borrow urs LOL. Seriously ne one know where I can re-grab that file?

if youve unlocked your bootloader,simply download your revocery of choice,place the image into the same folder you used for the unlock. boot your phone into fastboot,just like when you unlocked,and then use one of the 2 commands to permanently flash,or temporarily run, that recovery:

permanent:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery name>.img

temporary:
fastboot boot <recovery name>.img

i personally would use amons recovery,wich has an option to install su,wich will root your phone.

alternatively,superuser files can be manually flashed in either clockwork or amons recovery,using this zipfile wich is available on revolutionarys page here: public:revolutionary [RootWiki]

honestly,its so easy you really dont need a one click or a script. the hardest part is downloading and setting up adb/fastboot etc. in preparation for htcdev unlock. its all downhill from there :)

id upload it for you,but im on one of the ics leak roms,so that file wont do you any good. if you cant find one somewhere,ill restore a backup later and upload it for you if i have time :)

Thanks Scotty thats so nice! I downloaded one of Scott's stock ROMs for the Rezound and it had the file! I appreciate ur help, nandroiding now and about to get this rolling!

I flashed the stock recovery, and replaced the otacerts file but my phone doesnt seem to know that I need an update...even if i go thru settings>software update>check new it doesnt update. Im perm rooted of course, but it is still the stock ROM that came on the phone. All I ever did was remove bloatware. Im stumped...

It isn't until now that I am putting it all together as to what happened. This morning when I woke up, I noticed that my Rezound had somehow booted into recovery. Not knowing anything about the OTA patch, I found this to be highly unusual, but selected reboot and went on with my day. I saw nothing strange with my phone at all until just a bit ago.

This evening, I decided to browse the forums for no particular reason and noticed the advertisement of the OTA. Upon further investigation, I see that my phone now has the latest software patch, but the baseband version is different than what was announced on the Verizon link. The baseband version I apparently have is: 0.95.00.1017_2r, 0.95.00.1013r.

I previously unlocked my bootloader and rooted my phone, leaving all bloatware in place, but freezing it with Titanium. I now no longer have root access, but I think I can figure that out through the links provided.

What's really concerning me is that my WiFi no longer works. I know it worked last night, but I looked at it after seeing I had the OTA update, and it says "error" and will not connect to anything.

Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks Scotty! I agree this is the safest and best method if you want to receive OTA's.

And just a reminder for our Mac friendly friends (like me) ;) remember that we have to put a ./ in front of the actual adb, fastboot commands in terminal.

Thanks again Scotty, this is the first post/suggestion I've seen suggesting this method and your instructions were right on the mark. And as a bonus I've seen my call quality and my battery life improve greatly with the latest OTA.

Do you have the new 5 bars? If so then you may want to try a couple of things.
Do a hard reset by wiping/factory reset (You "may" also have to relock first)

I know the same thing happened to me. I was running a custom recovery and was unlocked. I took the update and saw the 5 bars but my radios were not updated. I ended up reflashing stock recovery and doing a full RUU. Then I took the OTA and all is well.

BUT, just to tripple check take a screen shot of your software version, HBOOT version, etc. to make sure you can RUU. I'm not an expert so let somebody else confirm this. But I'd do the hard reset first just to make sure....

Also this thread over at XDA has ways to manually flash the update complete with new radios, etc.

has your hboot been updated yet? if not,you may be able to fix your main version and then run the RUU for 1.02.605.6,and let the OTA happen naturally. i dont think there would be much benefit of that,however,over simply running the RUU for 2.01.605.11,wich is now available here: RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1123r_3161E_9K_QMR_release_233635_signed.exe - download now for free. typically wifi is broken because of a module mismatch in the kernel. there are many ways to skin the cat,but because you also need/want the new radio,and a hard reset is gonna wipe your data anyway,running the RUU for the update is prolly the simplest splution.

-download .exe file
-relock bootloader
-run .exe as admin,if possible.
-re-unlock when done.
-soft boot(temporary) or permanently flash a recovery
-flash root files
*enjoy rooted,working OTA :D
