Root Root Methods help! Odin?

I agreed to help a buddy root his Droid Charge on 2.2.1 since I have some experience rooting, figured it would be easy. Wrong.

I have gone through and downloaded all the SDK and ADB crap in order to use command prompt to do everything and followed the steps exactly. I have all the Samsung drivers but the command prompt is not recognizing ADB at all.

After reading some posts here I'm under the impression that there is a program called Odin that will flash a new Rom and Kernal and at the same time rooting the phone. Is this correct? Its running EE4 as well.

Thanks a bunch!

LOL, gotcha!

How to use Odin: Click Here

There are multiple "versions" of CWM Recovery and they all, to my knowledge still have bugs. HERE is the latest though.

-OR-

My recommendation would be to flash a ROM that already has it (it will wipe the phone... think of it like an RUU).

Thank you! I have been reading and watching a few videos and I've decided to do the Altered Beast Odin package. My computer is having trouble downloading the Altered beast Zip is there another package I can try that will do the same thing?

This type of rooting is completely new, sorry to sound like a newb lol

On AF app, can you explain what it's doing (or not doing)?

You mean the altered beast rom? I don't know what AF app is... ha

Its a 236mb file and its only uploading to 11.4mb before freezing. I had to cancel it a few times because it just froze. Now it just goes to 11.4 and stops.

AF app is the app for this forum. Great for when you are on the phone but horrible when it comes to links.

The dev for that ROM doesn't seem to be supporting it so perhaps it might be best to try a different ROM :(

Well I re-downloaded it and ran Odin. It turned out ok!

Thanks for all the help! Now another friend has a problem with her infuse :( I have to stop offering to help friends with their phones lol

Thanks again!
