Root Root... Not Root...?

Hi, This has probably been asked in other forums, but no other solutions have worked for me. I'm a beginner at rooting, and barely a user. I have s-off on my htc thunderbolt, and revolutionary root said it worked. But there is no superuser, or anything else that should or anything else that should probably be there. I have installed superuser through market, and it didn't do anything.... Here is what my phone says on HBoot:
MECHA XD SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.04.1002
MICROP-/
RADIO-1.48.00.0930w_3
eMMC-boot
Please help me somehow. I don't know anything about this, but I travel and need root for wireless tethering.

First, I would recommend going over to the xda-developers forum & getting an account if you haven't already as they are experts when it comes to rooting not only with android, but also windows mobile. I'm not experienced with root either but I rooted my eris with one click root from the market & went over to xda-developers and created an account. Now I'm running GSB v3.4. As far as superuser it's not going to do anything until you install and run a program that requires root. It's used to allow/deny root access to apps that need it such as busybox. As soon as you install and run an app that needs root a popup will ask you to allow root access. You can easily revoke root by opening superuser.

lol,you definately do not need xda to learn about root. while xda and rootzwiki are good sources for roms youll find plenty of friendly knowledge right here, especially if youre not afraid to do some reading and researching.

did you allow revolutionary to install clockwork recovery? if not, you will need to download and install a custom recovery in hboot.

you can find a recovery here: http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...adios-recoveries-hboot-updated-1-25-12-a.html

download and rename the .zip file "PG05IMG" and place on the root of your sd card. boot to hboot(power off, then power on while holding vol down) and hboot will ask if you want to install the file. when finished, reboot and remove PG05IMG from your sd card.

if you did allow revolutionary to install clockwork recovery, you can skip the above,or go ahead and do it if you want to run a different recovery,or install the newest clockwork(revolutionary installs an older version).

once you have recovery, all you need to do is falsh superuser in recovery,as is described on revolutionarys wiki

from the commonly asked questions and problems:
*Does Revolutionary give me root?
No. You will need to flash this zipfile from recovery.

for some extra knowledge about rooting and roming,id start at these threads:

just holler if you have any questions :)

Thank you for your reply, but like I said... I'm really inexperienced... What is an MD5? The downloads page you recommended said to make sure the MD5 is an exact match... What is that and how do I check it?

just google "md5 summer" or "md5 sum checker" and download one for your PC. an md5 is a string of numbers generated from the the file, and is basically a way to check that the file you downloaded is not corrupt or incomplete-as if even 1 byte is missing, the md5 will be comepletely different.

you can also check it on your phone with an app called scary aliens AFV(android file verifier): market app AFV.

youll have to download a recovery, transfer the file to your phone, then check the md5 with AFV before bootling to hboot to flash it.

wether you check on your pc,phone,or both, is up to you :)
