Root Root not sticking

PRico90

Lurker
Im doing all the things for Perm Root but my root does not stick.. My MT4G came with 2.2.1 already pre-installed from the store. Could that be a reason why? anybody know how to get it to stick?

I think you have the same problem as I do, which is you have a new version of Hboot and apparently the new version prevents us from fully rooting our phone or turning S off. I found that out after i tried to root my phone and I noticed i had a newer version of Hboot than in the tutorial. Can someone please come out with a new tutorial? Much appreciated.

i have tried it all.... all of the methods employed to perm root this device and i still get s=on. this sucks because i cannot dump the bloatware permanently as it comes right back as soon as I reboot because the root doesnt stick...... also any other minor mods that I put in dont stick either... everything pretty much reverts to factory state. does anyone know of the ability to get this phone to gain s=off ???????????????????????????????

i saw a video where this guy was able to do it using visionary v.11 but its no where to be found online. only v.14 is out there.

anyone know of a fix on this one?

UPDATE - I GOT IT TO WORK.... S=OFF USING THIS METHOD. http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-gain-permanent-root-on-t-mobile-g2-desire-z-without-adb/

What version of Hboot do you have?

i have the newer hboot and this (nycdave post) did work (boot loader does show s-off finally)...but i'm not able to uninstall the original apps so im just confused at what it did besides give me s-off, alleged sim unlock and SU permissions. lol.

edit. i just needed an app for uninstalling apps for rooted devices. ugly icons gone now.

yes it does work, i dont know what version of hboot I have though. i am not s=off!

as for your ugly icons what do you mean? are you using ones that you designed? on that note, i have 2 questions that I dont knwo if you might be able to answer:

1-is there a way to remove the blackened outline from the icons?
2- is there a way to tighten up the grid snap-to when placing icons in the desktops?

any help would be great! thanks again

I was descriptive wasn't i? haha.
I just meant stock apps I don't want. I got rid of most of them, but the yahoo stuff doesnt even show up as an apk. and i got rid of faves too so that doesn't start up to take up ram and doesnt launch when i accidentally hit the icon.

what you're asking to do is not possible even with root on the stock rom. you need to find/download/flash a custom rom. and what do u mean ur not s-off. u said u were in ur last edited post. lol.

go to xda-developers.com and go to the mytouch 4g section and use the gfree method. download visionary and gain temp root. You will need super manager to copy the files into data local, then terminal to type the commands. I just did it a few days ago and i promise it works, just READ everything you can before you try and make sure you know what you are doing. ALSo dont forget to MAKE A BACK UP before you flash any roms after rooting.

thanks man.... i mistakenly said i was NOT s=off when indeed I AM s=off.... sorry about that. so now i have a couple of new issues......

1- do you have a link to that page over on xda?
2- since all of this went down, i had to reset the phone to factory settings because i wanted to change the default gmail account associated with this phone. i still have s=off but im having a tough time rooting. what should I do to get the phone rooted again? i though that having reprogrammed the phone into s=off status eliminated the need to re-root later with visionary etc. am i missing something? just so you know too. i reinstalled visionary and titanium as well as superuser and busybox. no dice though. wont root.

thanks so much

ok type out the following for me, im kinda confused:

1. do you have S=off?
2. what version of visionary are you using?
3. are you clicking setting rw after root in visionary before temp root?
4. before rooting, check your app tray to see if the superuser icon is there. If it is, uninstall it and try rerooting. That happen to me a couple of times, the super user icon stayed in my tray but i wasnt rooted.

sorry i took so long to respond, i didnt get the emailing saying you posted again. How did you try removing super user? though the applications menu? I just removed it by dragging and dropping it in the trashbin, but then again im using launcher pro.

I installed launcher pro and i still cannot delete this fkn program and its getting pretty annoying

any other ideas?

how are you trying to uninstall it and what it is telling you when you try?

i tried basically thew only way i can without rooting which to go into applications>manage applications> uninstall.

no dice.

i also tried one of those uninstaller apps which also did not work
