whenever you get a phone from one carrier to another you usually wont be able to get 3G. you can get it to use the 3G network but it has to be flashed over a certain and idk how one would go about that with the admire or if its even possible. since you are rooted, you can use root uninstaller to delete all the metro apps. and as for the metro introduction you must get a file manager like root explorer that lets you go to the system/media/ and all the sound and related things are there (metropcs hello hello hello, the metro screen)

The problem with the one-click root method posted in the OP is with the run.bat file. If you open the file in a editor, you can see that the first adb command for device is spelled wrong. Just change it to read device instead of defice and I'm sure that you will get different results for using this method and this download. As it says it is for 2.3.4 NOT the 2.3.6 update.

Actually somebody pointed that out before and it doesn't cause any problems. Just a random spelling error

Sorry about that. I just know that the little spelling error was the difference between a simple and a more than simple root, at least for me, but I'm on 2.3.6 now and the root for that was straight forward easy. Carry on....

which root method did you use for the 2.3.6? the one by PG or kidallstar? superuser or superus?

:) hi guys, ok I want to tether my phone to use it as an alternative to get on the internet from my computer (the at&t's internet speed we can afford is pathetic and keeps messing up, me and my sister both agree hehehe.) Though I've been finding out for the past few hours by reading through a lot of forums that in order to tether my phone I have to download this admire root zip file and doing so didn't work, I followed the Instructions and everything but it said my phone was not rooted. Then while reading about the risks of rooting my phone I came across some more forums on different ROM's I can choose from to actually root my phone (since the zip file I downloaded won't work without my phone actually being rooted, thinking the file does that already). Now I'm thankful that it didn't work because I didn't know about the whole risk of the phone getting bricked and everything, I mean I never understood all this stuff until following up on it throughout the night till the early morning (merry Christmas by the way, hehe). My questions are:

1: Which ROM is best to use for a samsung admire running version 2.3.6 and kernel version 2.6.35.7 and gingerbread.FF18?

2: What do I use to back up my O.S so that if I accidently brick my phone I'll be able to restore the original files and settings?

3: Do I have to remove and back up my sd card as well?

4: After rooting and backing up my O.S, will the zip. file I downloaded work this time, when I tried it at first it kept saying that it could not make, copy and locate the files and even install superuser ("read only file system" it kept saying).?

5: I would like to watch movies online but am not able to due to my phone not being compatible to have adobe flash player, it really would save me even more space on my memory card if I was able to watch movies online Instead (though I already have a few movies saved on my sd card). Is there a way to still get adobe flash player to work on my phone so that the website will detect and recognize it available?

***oh and I have windows 7 home premium to do this with***

Well that's a lot of purple lol. For one the reason the root didn't work is because this root method is for admire's on 2.3.4. You have to follow this method http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/598618-root-2-3-6-update.html to root an admire on 2.3.6.

And for your other questions:

1. The best rom for the admire at all I would have to say is OA 2.3. http://androidforums.com/admire-all...2-3-20-final-ext4-rfs-updated-09-23-12-a.htmlhttp://androidforums.com/admire-all...2-3-20-final-ext4-rfs-updated-09-23-12-a.html On there you'll see there's two different links. One is for an overclocked version that can run at 900mhz, and the other is for a non-overclocked version that uses the admire's stock kernel that can only go up to 800mhz. The instructions are very clear so there's no possible way you could mess up. Oh yeah OA has tethering included in it you just gotta follow the instructions to activate it

2. You're gonna need cwm(clockworkmod). You're gonna need that anyways to install roms. There are two different versions. 5.0.2.7 and 5.0.2.8. Since you're using the stock rom you're gonna wanna use 5.0.2.7 to backup your system. Here's the link to installing 5.0.2.7 http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/488848-odin-clockworkmod-recovery-not-compatible-rom-manager-yet.html

3. You don't have to backup your sdcard. Installing a rom means you'll only have to wipe things on your phone. You can just leave everything on your sd card, but you can back it up if you want.

4. You just contradicted yourself lol, but as i said before this root method won't work for 2.3.6 so you can delete the zip.

5. Uh there's a link for getting flash player on the admire somewhere in this forum but I don't know where it's at so you just have to look for it.

Some extra words of wisdom since it seems you're new to the whole rooting process:

  • Don't use rom mananger with this phone to avoid ending up with an unusable phone.
  • Make sure you wipe /data, /cache/, and system in cwm before installing any rom to avoid any problems.
  • Also make sure that if you have a question about something that you search for it to see if that specific question has already been answered as some people get annoyed(me included lol) when people ask a question that's been answered many times before.

thank you so much for you're help,.....man I was nervous rooting my phone and all, I was really focused on following the instructions step by step, huh! lol. I got my phone's root updated and also have Odin installed, even-though "root checker" says I'm not rooted, it does show I have superuser installed, but not buysbox, su, and sudio and because I haven't added the ROM yet (still wondering if I need to change the ROM anyway). I haven't done so yet because I don't understand what you mean by wiping data/cache/system to CWN before adding a ROM. How do I wipe these to the CWN, did you mean wiping as in deleting something. I don't understand, how do I actually back up my previous ROM before changing it?

Well first if you're having trouble rooting you can just flash a rom. Most, if not all, roms are already rooted by default anyways. And you don't need to change roms. But a lot of custom roms are preferred over the stock rom. And basically I mean that you first have to install cwm by following the instructions in the link i provided. After it's successfully installed you have to hold power+volume down+back on your phone while it's off to boot into cwm.
Here's a video showing you how to do all of that Samsung Admire [Tutorial] (How To Install Clockwork Mod Recovery Using Odin) [FOR 2.3.4 & 2.3.6] - YouTube .

Now when you boot into it you're gonna use volume up to move up and volume down to move down and the home button to select things. To backup just go down to backup and restore and choose it, then choose backup and it'll backup your system, data, etc for you. You'll need atleast 500mb of free space on your sd card though.

Also you can only restore your backup with cwm 5.0.2.7 installed. If you decided to install cwm 5.0.2.8 to flash an overclocked rom then you're backup you made with 5.0.2.7 won't work. You'll have to flash 5.0.2.7 again to restore it.

Thanks once again KageBeast you've been most helpful, sorry I didn't respond back to you sooner, was following all the Instructions and help you gave me to make the necessary changes and such to be sure my phone got rooted correctly. Happy to say I'm finally among the family of rooters lol! and am glad I can now tether my 3g into a wifi hotspot. I do have one more question if you don't mind? how do I get rid of bloatwire, I've read in some forums that it has something to do with Metropcs way of blocking stuff or something, not really sure but that it get's in the way basically of the normal function of a rooted phone (or something ??????). Other than that I am soooo sleepy, been up all night and it was at 3:23am that I finished re-adding "most" of the apps I had backed up on my previous ROM (sucks I have to pay again for the print share premium key in order to print from my phone, unless you know a way I can copy it to the new updated ROM I'm using now on my phone, guess that's another question lol!!). Thank you again for all you're help and for the answers you've given that helped me understand and make this all happen. Now excuse me while I go pass out in my sleep, been like a zombie for the past few hours lol!

No problem. And to remove bloatware you're gonna have to use either root explorer or titanium backup. Titanium being the easiest way to. They're both apps on the play store. And if you bought something on the play store you don't have to re-buy it just because you wiped all your data.

i download the phone driver but dont no how to unpack the archive, and open run.bat. please help a noob out thx!!!!!

Double click on the .exe file. Do what it says.

Download 7-zip (Google it) then do the same as above

Then right click on the .zip file, look for extract or something like that and extract it somewhere safe.

Make sure your phone is in USB debugging mode and plug your phone into your computer.

Then double click on run.bat.

Try this things if you're having problems rooting with a Macintosh Mac Macosx.
first just in case your noob enough, connect your phone to computer in debbuging mode! and don't mount the disk it's got to say "USB connected, select to copy files" on the notifications of your phone; IOW, not able to see it in the finder!
to avoid complications do this in the app: Terminal

Type [HIGH]cd [/HIGH] then, drag and drop the folder icon from the unzipped folder window that has the "admire_root.sh" in it; into terminal.app window.
[this is the same as cd into the directory but without errors]

at the prompt, type [HIGH]chmod 755 *[/HIGH] redundant but who cares

to run the .sh script, enter:
[HIGH]./admire_root.sh[/HIGH]
now, if you get
[HIGH]cannot bind 'tcp:5037'
error: cannot connect to daemon
* daemon not running. starting it now *
ADB server didn't ACK
[/HIGH]
etc.etc,etc,

You may have something blocking your network calls that dab-mac is trying to make. Try disabling littlesnitch, tcpblock or whatever you have that may be interfering.

I have tried multiple time and will not root my phone follow all instructions and terminal say no such command internal or external evrything is just as it is supposed to be and nothing. Plus their is no other admire root options that i have found. HAAAAAAA i hate my bloat ware and have no way to root my phone to remove it.

An easy alternative is to install clockworkmod through odin and flash a pre-rooted rom.
